Thrift store find; What's it for?

I found this at a thrift store today. Can't figure out what it was intended to be used for. Any ideas?

Reminds me of a garlic keeper.

It looks like a Tagine pot, a type of Moroccan cookware that’s made from ceramic or clay. You make spiced stews with a tagine pot which keeps food as moist as possible while locking in flavors. Typically you place a bed of onions on the bottom, then add meat, vegetables and spices.

You need the coat to go check out your garden or see what is buried under snow at least or shovel it, can't work out if you are cold! I think the cat is a hoot!! I'd smile every time I went by it! The shovel & rooster plaques are really neat too. Great haul & wonderful prices! Jan

That is sure a pretty pattern on your new china. Fantastic buy, not often that you can find a complete set. I know you are really going to enjoy it. Ncnana, I feel the same way--tastes have changed over the years, probably would pick something different now. Only problem with a complete set is that we almost never use the cups and saucers, yet they take up so much space to store. Luvs

Those are so cool! Congrats on your great find. Does your public library have Proquest Historical Newspapers on its website? Or is it available to you through a high school web site you have access to through your kids (if you have any)? I used Proquest Historical Newspapers to brink up articles on Morris Furniture Company, and there were several from the 1930s up to the 1970s. In a 1956 obituary of Edward Morris in the LA Times, it said he came to the states from England in 1915 & started his company in LA. Looks to me, but am not sure about it, that the company may have morphed into Jamor Mart, currently doing business in LA.

nice piece jasdip... we don't have freecycle either :( i will def, try the chicken marbella this week, always looking for a great new recipe... made two last week from cooking light grilling magazine that we all enjoyed: teriyaki shrimp and scallop kababs, i used filet steak instead of scallops. we love scallops but i had the filets in the freezer so i used them. and i made Spicy grilled chicken over Sweet peppers, came out fantastic. this week i am going to make "grilled salmon with east-west spice rub and orange soy glaze", so we shall see how that comes out. i also got this cookbook from thrift store in the winter for $.50..... all their paperbacks are $.50 and hardcover $1.00

The overall shape resembles the tagine pots, but the bottom is much deeper, and there are holes in the bottom. That didn't appear to be characteristic of the tagine pots in my Google search. Garlic keeper looks like a good bet, though the location of the ventilation holes is unlike any I found online, and it's huge compared to many.

Thank you both for joining in the speculation. I grow garlic every year, so for the meantime, it will have a place of honor in the kitchen, full of my own harvest!

Tagines don’t have holes in the bottom. Maybe a tortilla warmer?

Looks like a hand-thrown piece, so really it could've been for whatever purpose the artist had in mind, and could've been a one-off. My best guess would be a garlic (or onion?) keeper.
