I dont recognize the photo, but I think you could walk into any good tile place and find that sort of look in marble or travertine. Purdy!

Amyinaustin, thanks for the link to Subway Ceramics. I've emailed them to see if their switchplates and outlet covers are the same size as their subway tiles. That would be ideal. The other tile companies I've seen that make switchplate covers don't make them 3" X 6". They all still seem to use the 2 3/4" X 4 1/2" standard size. Strayer, I hadn't thought about the possibility of breakage after installation; I was too fixated on how many I would break trying to carve them myself! We thought about the plug strips but heard a rumour from my son who is training to be an electrician that they aren't to code here. That seems odd but we don't like the dangling cords anyway so decided it wasn't the look we wanted in our sort of retro/vintage kitchen. I read some of the threads you mentioned and my poor husband is right now doing those math calculations to place the electrical boxes for the outlets at just the right height for a row of tiles. The problem comes in trying to line up studs to attach the boxes with where the tiles start and stop in a row. This may be more a job for a master electrician and a master tilesetter to work on together instead of my very capable but self taught husband. This may be one of those ideas that looks so nice when someone else does it, but is totally impractical in my life.

Spanish, about two months ago I spent a week in bed resting a knee from being on hands and knees scrubbing the grout between my porcelain square tiles in the kitchen and laundry room, both have a lot of floors. The grout is white but because of two big dogs who drool on bits of dust on the floor, bring all sorts of wet and dirty feet inside, thanks to DH, I swear to all that's Holy, large areas of the grout turned BLACK. It seemed like I spent hours trying every tip from the Internet. Some would work if I wanted to scrub the same spot until my fingers were raw. One day I used a new product on my white sink, Clorox Cleaner + Bleach. I posted this story on the cleaning forum because I was so excited! Since it worked wonders on the sink, I sprayed it on a 12" line of grout where it couldn't be seen if I messed up the tile. I didn't even bother to look up to see if Clorox would ruin porcelain. I sprayed the cleaner on it, let it sit for a couple of minutes (it got on the tile too), used my Oxo tile brush and BARELY had to scrub the black off! Not only did it lift the embedded dirt, it bleached the grout back to white! After scrubbing the grout, I used dry and wet paper towels to clean the area. It didn't hurt the grout or porcelain in the least! Steam cleaners couldn't even lift the dirt. And I did the same as you, doing portions of it at a time. I'd even do it at midnight when DH and dogs were asleep and out of my way. :) Tilex is another good product for grout. Why didn't anyone tell us this before?? ETA: I definitely need to seal the grout now, but I'll think about that tomorrow.

Yup - that's the same one I recommend.
