Quotes too high...what to do?
Comments (32)I live in NC too, and with our cost of living you should be able to build a pretty nice house for 250,000 -- but I wouldn't expect you could build that first house for anywhere near that price. It's dripping in expensive add-ons. I find it overdone, but that's personal opinon. The second house is better, but it is still going to be overbudget. You're still looking at fancy ceilings, etc. I think it'll be cheaper than the first house, but still not within your budget. I think you have two options: 1. Increase the budget with some money of your own. 2. Find a new, more simple houseplan. If you start with one of these houses, and you start chopping off this and that item, you're going to lose the overall character that you were looking for in the first place....See MoreCambria quartz cost
Comments (6)I'm planning a kitchen reno (bump out) and my plan is to do Cambria Praa Sands countertops with white cabinets. We haven't broken ground and already well over budget, thus project is now delayed. For 53 sq. ft. of counter space needed, my contractor was quoted $8,500 ($160/sq.ft.), which seems excessively high and told him to get more quotes. Does that seem high to you? I live in northern suburbs of Chicago. A kitchen designer we met with told us that with Cambria, it's more expensive because you're not paying for a slab, you only pay for the amount needed and it's considered the more expensive of the quartz manufacturers. So now I'm reconsidering just using the Cambria on the main feature parts of the kitchen: island and main perimeter, and using something else on the outer perimeter (butcher block, laminate?). P.S. I know this is a different topic, but does anyone know a reasonably priced and quality kitchen cabinet supplier in the Chicago area? The quote for my kitchen cabs was $24,000 and it's not that big of a kitchen or a million-dollar home. Any experience with options at Lowes or Home Depot? I just can't justify $24k on cabinets. Comments (92)No engineered stone is approved for UV exposure. It’s not an industry secret at all. None can go outside. Period. If your professionals that you worked with had done their jobs, you’d be an educated consumer and know that it’s not an exclusion just for Cambria. Direct sun from standard new windows shouldn’t pass enough UV to damage your floors, furniture, or e-stone. Standard windows already come with UV blocking properties, so if yours are so old that they don’t have it, you’ve got other issues about UV exposure in your house. Old windows need UV blocking film installed to avoid degradation to all kinds of interior finishes. Not just your e-stone. If it’s a relatively new window, that’s a conversation that you need to have with your window manufacturer. It’s defective. This is Not on Cambria. Or Silestone. Or Pental. Or Zodiaq. Or any e-stone manufacturer. New windows shouldn’t have issues with transmitting enough UV to damage your home.. Poop happens. This isn’t on Cambria. Talk to your window manufacturer....See MoreCambria quartz estimate
Comments (23)Hard to believe that Cambria can ship stone halfway across the country, and sell it for less than the do in their home market.. If the OP is within 4 hours of Cambria, I dont think there will be much negotiating room as it all comes from their central fabrication facility, or a few select certified fabricators.. With Cambria, you cannot go by just sq footage. You need to factor in backsplash, cooktop? Undermount or overmount sink, seams etc, as they are all priced individually. After you determine all the intricasies of your estimate, then you can calculate it by the sq ft if you want.. All edges are the same price, which can be good, if youre going with a comparable with an ogee edge, or it can be a negative if youre just going with a standard edge.. An ogee edge on any comparable, will add to the cost, therefore offsetting the difference. If you are buying from Cambria factory store, I will say one thing, their backsplash is expensive.....See Moreathleticannie
