It may or may not regrow from the base, but it will take a long time and entails some risk, not to mention probably looking worse than it does now. Better to cut back about 25% at a time, over a few years, shearing the new growth for bushiness as it develops. Carol Mackie will grow tall and gangly when it has too little light, but they do tend to be pretty sprawly anyway. This is why commercial growers shear them almost like Xmas trees in order to produce dense, saleable plants.

We live as far north as you can be in Utah and I guess you could say we live in the mountains. They are all around us anyway. We lucked out and the frost missed us. Others in our area were not so lucky though. So maybe we can enjoy another week or two.

My neighbor called to give me a heads up that their church would be caroling tonight and stopping at my elderly aunt's house between 6p - 6:30p. She thought maybe I should mention it to my aunt, so I called my aunt to let her know. She was thrilled but said, "I'd better not change into my PJs too early!" I'm going down to listen too. Question: I know it's traditional to give the carolers a treat and in in olden days carolers expected figgie pudding. ha Hot chocolate sounds great, but we probably won't do that. I bought a bag of the little "Halos" clementines to pass out. Perhaps a small monetary contribution to their church?

Never had them when I was growing up in town, nor when I moved here in the country. Once I had a friend who rented an upstairs apartment in a grand old house in a small community that had many Amish families as well as English. We were out walking one night before Christmas, and here came a group of Amish youths caroling house to house. We asked if we could join them. We recognized the songs, but they were being sung in German! All we could do is hum along. It was beautiful. Now that small village is a tourist haven and oh so changed and most all the houses on the main street were bought up and converted to shops. You can barely drive around with all the people and tourist buses from the city. This town is called Berlin, Ohio, if anyone knows of it.
