Kraus or Kohler workstation sink? would love your input!

I love the Galley and Rachiele sinks look awesome too, but Kraus or Kohler may be more in our budget. Anyone happy with their Kraus or Kohler workstation sink?

We’re looking at the models that are close to 48” and curious on feedback or lessons learned? Did you modify smaller cabinets to make it work or have a custom cabinet made?

If you have a larger sink like this, are you happy or do you wish you went with a more standard size?

We cook a lot, bake our own bread and seem to constantly be working in the kitchen. A large sink to clean my large lasagna pans in, sheet pans, etc sounds amazing!

48" wow. I'm struggling to go bigger than 30" [i have that now]...36" seems so big...

have you gone to look at them in real life?

I like a nice simple sink with nothing in my way...but if you had 48" then all those attachments that come with the workstation sinks wouldn't get in the way I suppose.

Depth of a sink is an issue for tall people not short people. Tall people have to stoop more to reach the bottom of the sink, while short people do not. I would not let the 3/4" difference in depth affect your decision. Given that both the Kohler and the Kraus come with grids, both are 16 gauge, and both have rear drains, it is your personal preference and your budget, as there don't seem to be features (that I can see in a brief look) that differentiate them. Edit: I just found a significant difference. The Kohler Strive needs a base cabinet of 30-33". The Kraus needs a base cabinet of 36". What is the size of your sink base cabinet?

I’ve only had mine for a couple months, but so far I love it. I have not seen any staining. It has a single ledge. It drains well. Since I don’t cook and don’t have a family, I hand wash my few dishes and I use the drainboard. I did find food in one corner, but that’s my fault for not rinsing it well. It is also a large sink and I have one faucet. It’s impossble for that area to be rinsed without phyically doing it. I previously had a kohler stages. I hated the ledge. It was always dirty and getting water spots. It was also narrower. Someone put tape on it before it was installed and it left tape marks. Anyway, I love it so far, but as I said I’ve only had it abot two months.

Personally I don't understand how anyone uses these work station sinks to do any serious chopping/cutting. Ergonomically they seem wrong. The cutting board goes in the wrong direction for me. When the sink is under mounted the cutting board sits lower then the countertop. When anything falls off the cutting board it is dropping into a dirty sink. Also when you want to use the sink to wash anything then you have to remove all the parts. The colander on these types of sinks looks tiny. No way a full pot of pasta can be drained in it.

Apologies for missing the original question. I am happy with the sink a year later. Have not had the issue again. My only con and this is a personal thing… the black rubber mat/rack thing sat in place for about the first week and ultimately landed rolled up in a cabinet never to surface again because I found it useless and in the way. I use the cutting board regularly but constantly moving it on and off the sink is an added step when doing dishes or cleaning the sink. So if I personally had to choose again I would go with Kraus but not sure I gain anything from the ‘workstation’ aspect other than the visual as it is pretty when all put together.

I have seen the Galley sinks in person (4ft on up to 6ft). I liked it in the showroom! But it’s certainly a commitment and curious to see how people feel about it if they have one this size.

Our Rachiele is 42", but at 30" it would still work just fine. The Rachiele attachments stack so there's still plenty of room. Of course, larger is better, but there's no issue until you get to 24" or less.

You will find many posts over many years if do a gardenweb search on Kohler Stages or workstation sink. There have been so many discussions over the years! I love my Kohler Stages 45”. I’ve had it 5 1/2 years now and will never go back to a regular sink. I use the ledge for all prepping, but I find the shelf a wonderful feature! I have it installed in 36+24”cabinets.
