best creamy white not too yellow for cabinets
Comments (12)We chose Benjamin Moore's Acadia White for our cabinets. Our cab maker used the paint to make a "conversion varnish" out of it. I don't know if that had any effect on the color, but they are a nice, creamy color. They actually turned out creamier than I wanted...wanted brighter white but people scared me about white so I went with something slightly less bright. They surprised me how creamy they were when they were put in place. However, they are not all that creamy for a cream and if that's the tone you're looking for, it really is quite lovely. It's definitely not too yellow-y looking but is also not a bright white. I think we looked at Linen White too and I think it was significantly more yellow-y. What I really wanted and chickened out of was Sherwin Williams Mayonnaise. It's quite white. Jgarner has it in her awesome kitchen on the finished kitchens site....See MoreMy creamy yellow cabinets...
Comments (95)hi spider! wow, your house is fab... your mudroom looks bigger than my kitchen! i love your floors. some people just don't get it, but you are smart not to take that personally. people that do get it... it's why you come here, right?! ;) i love, love, love circuspeanut's kitchen. so knowing that yellow is your yellow is even better! i have the paint card right here on my desk. marcolo is right, you cannot get too garish with hawthorne yellow. it's a VERY pretty yellow. just went to dig up my "creamy butter" sample that jterrilynn has. now i adore her cabinets, and i think yours are a little lighter than hers... so in other words no worries about it being too bright. i personally feel like a wimp now with my "ivory" cabs (who am i kidding, they're white)! it makes me super happy to see more of your kitchen. hope you're feeling happier about your choices, too. it WILL come together. :)...See MoreMore neutral: light green or creamy yellow?
Comments (3)I worry that yellow will make your beige carpet look dingy, unless it is more of a straw/wicker color with some yellow in it? Have you considered going in another direction and choosing a rosy-peachy tone? There are very sophisticated ones that don't look too girly. We used Donald Kaufman #14 in our kitchen, and it shifted through the day from cooler in the morning to warm at night in incandescent light . I wish the colors in this photo were truer...the cabinets and trim were more ivory in tone, and the walls never looked quite this pink, but it might give you the idea. (My husband, by the by, had no problem with the pinkness, and if it had looked too pink, he'd have vetoed it.) Something like this could look wonderful with turquoise and cobalt....See MoreShow me your creamy yellow cabinets
Comments (24)Hi teched: I am not sure what you mean by partial overlay. The cabinets were done be a local cabinetmaker but he has access to a laser cutter. I am not sure of the technique. An artist friend of mine designed the finish. The undercoat was a yellowed ivory color which she created and which was then applied by the cabinetmaker. I have the forumla she created, but I do know that it had to be tweaked somewhat in the medium that was used as the finish. She glazed the cabinets with raw sienna artist oil mixed with linseed oil. The painting in the kitchen was also done by her several years ago. The floors are Globus cork tiles cut in a parquet pattern in the color golden oak--to me the color is not your typical oak but almost an English walnut. The granite is Niteroy, and the backsplash is Bella casa tumbled marble. We mixed four colorways. I had a wonderful installer who was very patient with me and permitted me to choose specific tiles to in a general way reflect the movements in the granite. He also installed the cork and built, painted and glazed the door and window surrounds to match the cabinets. The undercabinet lighting is xenon, and the lighting in the cabinets are low voltage xenon. I painted the walls myself. I can give you a website reference with more detail about how I painted the walls using color washes that were brushed out. I hope this helps. Thanks for your kind comments, and I will try to provide more specific answers if needed....See Morestillpitpat
