Do I pull the trigger: Samsung Induction floor model great deal
Comments (22)Thanks, everyone! I've contacted our friend from the neighborhood association who is a small job contractor to ask for a referral for an electrician. It is just better to be safe than sorry. And if I lose out on the deal, oh well, it wasn't meant to be right now. They actually had two ranges, and I doubt even at the reduced price they will be flying out the door since they are still expensive relative to an electric smoothtop, and most people beyond the TKO have no idea what is induction. However, it's a great deal for anyone who recognizes it. With the appliance rebates this upcoming weekend, there will certainly be more traffic in the stores. The Maytag coiltop range I have now is nowhere near on its last legs at this time. I ran the self clean after Christmas and it was perfectly fine. The burner elements are all good, too....See MoreIs it a big deal to remove faucet base plate?
Comments (16)I'm sure you're all correct that it can be run either way. It's just that every photo with a herringbone backsplash that I see on the internet has it running ^^^^^ as opposed to >>>>>, if that makes sense. I can't freak out over the way it played out; as I said it just never occurred to me to say anything and by the time I realized it was done. Nothing to be done about it - the tile is all out of stock, I had to hunt down 2 extra sheets to finish it off as it was. I do think they should have asked, but compared to the other stuff, it's a reasonable mistake - the early goofs were the real annoyance, since forgetting to schedule floor installation and mis-ordering the cabinets stretched the timetable out much longer than we anticipated. Here's a couple of just-grouted shots. I'm very happy in general, but when I see others' photos (and there have been a few herringbones on GW these past few days plus the always stellar @enduring backsplash that lives in my mind!) I wish it had turned out differently. Oh well, tomorrow the floor will be done and then it's well past time for me to stop second guessing!! Thanks so much for the advice and the reality check!...See MoreWhat is the deal with long pulls?
Comments (31)jellytoast - mine are all 3" from the top of the drawer. Since the first drawer is 6" it is in the center of the drawer. I like that I don't have to bend down so much to reach the middle of the cabinet. My GC said that because we had sturdy high quality cabinets that it was OK to do that way (the cabinet maker prefers it that way). The GC mentioned that with some less substantial drawer fronts it is sometimes better to center of the drawer to distribute weight....See MoreMurray cypress - so what's the big deal??
Comments (41)Well we had a navy to supply and an empire to build dontcha know? Oddly enough, conifers are pretty much the forgotten species here in the UK. They last had a moment in the sun sometime back in the 70s (for which we certainly thank the Bloom family)...when they were planted, along with the ubiquitous heather, as low maintenance foundation plantings. Since then, with apologies to you guys, conifers have been relegated to the 4th division of trendoid planting styles and categories (unlike the sodding new perennialistas with bloody echinaceas, grasses and rudbeckias popping up everywhere, no matter how ludicrous and inappropriate). Naturally, I have been loudly and contrarily singing the praises of these much underused plants (conifers) for the past few years - falling on deaf ears but hey, baby steps...and I confess I am also starting from a position of woeful ignorance - although only yesterday, I ordered a Bhutan pine to add to the fruit tree order) and I have seedlings - lots of them. It is true though, that national characteristics (albeit largely imaginary and stereotyped) does have some bearing on our planting preferences. Unlike the French, the English have always romanticised the countryside...and that countryside, at least the one which lives in the national imagination, is largely of the green rolling hills and hedgrows variety with only a tiny bit of Highlands to compare with the vast arborial forests of the American psyche. And we are a tiny country with nothing of the geographical variety of the US (our default imaginary landscape tends to be the coast). No deserts, no prairies (although we do have the flat waterworld of the fens and Somerset levels). Ho resin...expect some action on some of these grouse moors this summer - the misery of flooding, exacerbated by the unnatural draining and clearing of the peat moors will not go unpunished for much longer - the hunting/shooting and riding to hounds fraternity are diminishing (despite recent monied converts desperate to buy into some olde english tradition) and deference to class is receding year on year....See MoreHU-527663426
