How to Install Laminate if Shoe Mould is Painted on?
Comments (30)Joseph, I think you are preaching to the choir on a forum like this, so chill and give posters credit for knowing what they are dealing with. This is a 750SF house, built to house base support during the interwar period. It is as basic as basic gets, but hardwood flooring was par for the course in that era, even though a luxury to us. There is just no way to cosmetically salvage the floor. It has served faithfully for ninety years, but is just worn out. I appreciate everyone's advice on the shoe mold. I'm clearly overthinking it, but I was just so down in the dumps because of all that haaaaard work scrubbing and laying poly gone to waste. I was so proud of the job I had done. But we knew it was a gamble when we did it, because of the condition of the floor. We have found an unbelievable clearance deal on Trafficmaster laminate at the local big box, so we can at least keep the look of what was there....See MoreLuxury Vinyl Floor
Comments (18)Barbara, check out the thread titled Anyone Used Coretec. It's miles long and you might want to skip to the bottom for more recent posts. People seem to love it but I would check the Flooret as well. Be sure to look at the design repeat which flags the floor as vinyl if you see the same 'boards' throughout a room. Some manufacturers have extra long selections which helps avoid that. Consider the rooms and how much will be visible. There are many realistic looking brands with great grain. Lots of it is trendy (rustic saw marks). Much of it is mid toned and darker. I am afraid of the trends and would steer clear of overly wide planks and overly dark and rustic. I thought I would go LVT but the cost differential wasn't worth the compromise to me. Basic 2 1/2- 3" prefinished oak can be installed for the same or less in my area. Resale issues are valid, even in mid-range homes and everyone wants wood. I may go for 'solid' stranded bamboo to replace family room and bedroom carpeting. I really don't like the short pieces you get stuck with in modestly priced prefinished wood. For kitchens, I can't understand the wood love. It can't be thoroughly washed which is unacceptable to me. Just me and the husband and we take our shoes off before entry. You would not believe the dirty water after I've washed my tile floor. If I could redo the kitchen I would likely put in modern vinyl in a cool fun pattern. If your kitchen has natural wood cabinets, a wood floor is tough to coordinate. Don't go super dark if it's even-toned. EVERY crumb and piece of lint shows. It's like a black car - only looks good the day it's washed. A good friend has deep regrets with an ebony looking bamboo floor (also requires frequent chip touch ups with a marker!). We are fortunate to have so many choices. There is something for everyone. Comments (7)Exactly. Oddly there are a number of websites that show people laying luxury vinyl plank flooring on top of tile floors. The pattern of the grouted gaps between tiles will form a pattern in the vinyl flooring! Either rip up all the old tile, fully sand/clean the floor so it is ‘smooth‘, and ‘then’ lay your vinyl plank, or keep your existing tile floor. Otherwise you will be ripping up your vinyl plank in a year when it has a tile pattern showing up in it........See MoreNewly Installed Rigid Vinyl Plank Flooring Makes Crackle Sound?
Comments (94)I hear or notice the noise way less now, but still hear it from time to time when walking over an area for the first time. We have a couple of seams that have a small gap forming. As others have pointed out and i have come to learn, the problems that we have with the floors are caused by the unevern (not flat) subfloor. So, from that perspective, i cant blame flooret. However, most people that are buying these vinyl floors are doing so for the advertised ”value” and installing them in extisting homes. When you consider the time and expense to make old subfloors PERFECTLY flat, they are no longer a good value. That is my biggest complaint at this point; they drastically under communicate the amount of time and money required to achieve the desired outcome. To those of you who installed these Flooret floors, im sorry and hang in there. The noise and /or your attention to it will improve greatly over time....See MoreKhalil Ghorbani
