Small house, big challenges! Need Help with Family Room!
Comments (16)You guys are great!! Thank you so much! We are going to play with the arrangement this weekend and see how it affects the egress in the room. I have a feeling that the couch against the windows is going to interfere with the natural walkways of that room. But, that being said, I just have to see it to rule it out because I really like the idea of the large sofa on that longer wall. I have already purchased a solid blue drapery panel for that window but a pattern might actually be a great idea and add a little something extra to the room. Rebecca, that rug is from the Magnolia collection and it is by Loloi rugs. Thank you, it was actually the first thing I bought for that room. My last several houses have all been in the darker words and darker red‘s, browns and when I saw this house, I knew I wanted to go with something a little bit different hence the blues and the grays. I was also thinking about doing a dark blue on the chairs but then wanted the dark blue on the window treatments and didn’t think I would want to put a dark blue chair against a dark blue window treatment. I hope that makes sense. So my thought was maybe going with more of a natural linen color on the chairs and then adding a pattern or solid blue pillow. Thank you all so much for the feedback and food for thought. I really love all of your suggestions and it really helps to try to see the room in a different way, through someone else’s eyes. ....See MoreNeed help accessorizing family room
Comments (4)I can only see a strip of the ivory shag rug. However, I would suggest a much larger, almost room-size rug in a traditional or transitional pattern (try overstock.com or esale. rugs under those headings). With such a dark floor (which shows every bit of lint and dust) a large rug is advised for that alone. Look for an Oriental rug in warm colors which will look good with traditional and modern styles, especially if you choose a more geometric (and less floral) pattern. I recommend simple off-white curtain panels as window coverings. Color can be introduced with the rug, pillows and art on the walls. You also need some table and/or floor lamps for nighttime illumination. A blue and white Chinese-style ceramic lamp base will look good with the Oriental rug, and you can get both terracotta and blue pillows that have a pattern with white or off-white also in the mix....See MoreNeed help decorating family room
Comments (1)I just feel the sectional makes it feel so closed out. We are planning to put a fire place where the console table and tv is. Not sure if this will make it look good. I want the area to feel open and inviting....See MoreNeed help with family room layout/design
Comments (8)it's a bit hard to answer in the abstract (i.e., are there other sitting rooms someplace?). my starting point would be adding more seating -- some day you may want to watch TV with more than two people at a time, or even have a conversation there! put a couch on the wall that has the play mats currently (without measurements, I'm just assuming there's still clearance to walk through -- otherwise, a pair of chairs with a table between them), and get a larger rug to unify the whole seating area/conversational grouping. if the current couch is too far from the TV for comfortable watching, you could move it up close the fireplace, leaving a walkway behind to the sliders. but again, I'm just guessing at scale here. otherwise, TV might be better lowered. I'd also switch the blue art behind the couch for the brown piece over the fireplace which will put both in better proportion to their settings....See Moredecoenthusiaste
