Comments (1)Lots of trees have small/sparse roots and if nature hasn't seen fit to trim them in the wild to accommodate that, I don't think you need to worry much. But I might consider a shorter, wider container if you're worried. They look happy enough and I don't believe in messing with success :-)....See More4 seed grown 2 year old Meiwa kumquat trees
Comments (21)All four of my seed grown Meiwa kumquat trees. Largest of my seed grown Meiwa kumquats. -------------------------------------------------------------- Fruitiest of my seed grown Meiwa kumquat. She put on 30 fruit this year and 2 last year. The fruits last year were ripe and low on flavor. A half ripe fruit this year tasted good. Better fruits grow on older trees. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meiwa kumquat second largest of the 4 and the only other one to develop a ripening kumquat What started this spring as #2 fell to #4 in size. This is the only one that has not had a fruit set yet Steve...See MoreHarvested Meiwa kumquats, Now I need recipes!!
Comments (11)That is a nice kumquat harvest! I have the same issue...if it can be called an "issue" :>) I have shared this often but here it is again....I make my own whipped cream and don't use the whipped topping in the recipe. http://www.kumquatgrowers.com/recipe001.html You can also make some free-form toppings to refrigerate and use as glazes or spreads for toast, waffles, pound cake, and sponge cake....even over ice cream. Either thin-slice the kumquats or pure' them. Some people say you can leave the seeds in and pure' the entire fruit but you don't want all the green bits of seeds nor do you want those pesky seed hulls in your recipe. De-seeding is the worst part but do remove the seeds! I say this is free-form because lots of proportions will work. Just work with something like a cup of pure', a half cup of sugar and a half to a quarter cup of lemon juice. Cook it on low to medium heat, stirring regularly for ten to fifteen minutes. Let cool and refrigerate. For a thinner result, increase the lemon juice and sugar proportionally....See MoreMy 4 seed grown Meiwa kumquat trees just turned 4 years old
