36” Monogram vs American Range

Hi, I’ve been able to find good deals on Monogram and American Range Performer 36” and debating which to go with. American Range would still be $700 or so less. I like the idea of a timer/temp probe but don’t know that is worth $700. I also like the idea of the semi open burners but BTUs for both seem good. I’ve been reading about lack of AR customer service but seems if people have one that works they love it? That said there aren’t many recent reviews. Both seem to have big capacity which is important to me. I’ve seen both separately but will try to head somewhere with both on display. Thoughts? Also don’t know if it needs to match but I’m looking for a wall oven and microwave as well which is maybe a point for monogram. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Monogram would be the better choice. It is more well-known and produces some beautiful designs as well as supplying long-standing customer service with avenues for complaints if you aren't getting what you need. Repair parts may also be easier to find in the future if needed. Shop around to different dealers on price since many showrooms carry or can order Monogram.

Thanks! I think we've decided to go with Monogram. Went to one dealer who sold American Range who said they've stopped since they cant get in touch with their service dept. Now I just need to figure out which fridge to get :)

In February we were making a decision about the AG ranges and were looking at American, Bluestar and Wolf. We did tons of research and looked and looked. At that time I was also thinking I wanted a color range rather than stainless, so that narrowed it down to Bluestar and American. We decided the American was a better value than the Bluestar and were ready to order until we did a final measurement and discovered that the extra depth of the Performer would not work in our particular configuration because a drawer on an adjacent wall wouldn't open. So, much as we would have liked it, that eliminated that possibility. Then, we found an AG Wolf floor model on clearance (one of the old models with the open burner) and bought that. I like it, but personally I wouldn't want the burners on the new model Wolf. And, there have been a couple times (maybe only 3 or 4) when I thought to myself I would have liked to have one of the more powerful burners from the Performer. In your shoes, I'd save the money and get the Performer. This doesn't mean I don't like the Wolf; it just means that I don't think it is worth the extra money now, especially considering the fact it has sealed burners.

My research on the Monogram was extremely positive. I ended up buying the range top and wall ovens but I wouldn't have hesitated to buy the full range based on what I read. The appliance store near us does their own testing and they concluded it was the best buy in ranges and range tops. They said it was great quality, cooked remarkably well and beat many of their higher end products (Viking and Wolf) in quite a few categories. They steered me back to it for the range top even though I was also interested in a Wolf. In my case the fact that I wanted a grill was also a factor since the Monogram grills can be put in the dishwasher and are reversable for meat vs. fish and veggies. All in all I'm happy with all the Monogram appliances I purchased.

Well, as is usually the case, the rest of the house renovation went over budget. So we kept our Thermador for now. I absolutely LOVE the cooktop. And the oven cooks very evenly but the fan is just so loud. It is super frustrating. However, we visited a high-end appliance showroom and looked at the newer 36" Thermador. It didn't seem near as loud, so I wonder if the Thermador engineers figured out a different fan mechanism. If you decide on the Monogram, I'd love to know what you think!

Any new feedback on above range tops? We are doing a once-in-a-lifetime total remodel, and I was all set to get Monogram but someone on the Internet has posted a 2016 video of how her entire collection of Monogram appliances failed in the first few months (she did not have a range top.) Appreciate your help! Thanks.

American Performer and Monogram are very different ranges. If you are interested in the AP, have you looked at BlueStar? The star burner is very similar, no burner cap and similar star shape. It does have an open burner tray that comes apart for cleaning.

Thanks! I looked hard at BlueStar, but the additional cost for open burner took it out of the running, I feel like BlueStar isn't worth it for the sealed burner and with the monogram I can get a rebate toward a speed oven.

Monogram makes good ranges and ovens. If you shop around, some retailers offer significantly below MSRP in addition to the usual Monogram promotion.
