Back of house needs some pizzaz!
Comments (0)We just had major sewer excavation work done which tore up our property. We're going to get the driveway redone with a larger patio, but I wanted to see if anyone has examples of a similar house that's nicely architected. It's a 50's brick ranch, rear 2-car garage and walkout basement, lots of concrete. Most ranch houses around here have the garage in the front or side, so this one is a bit different. I'd love to see some large patios with an overhanging roof, landscaping that softens the look but ties together driveway and patio, or even some second story decks with garages underneath. The link below has some pics. I'm all ears for just about anything and will follow up with what it looks like with a fresh driveway and cleaned up retaining wall. Thanks! Here is a link that might be useful: The ranch house......See MoreMonster column needs color change..room needs some pizzaz!
Comments (25)You currently have muddy mid toned walls, muddy slightly darker couch and lighter flooring. You brought in two richer brown chairs and two muddy yellow green chairs and have one huge bold deep teal blue column. This column is a beautiful architectural feature that can be used to add pizzazz and drama to the room, but it shouldn't be an emerald necklace matched with a pair of khakis and a tan t shirt. My fear is that you will paint it the same color as the walls and drown in a sea of mud. You need color, but maybe the color needs to be less brilliant and needs to be carried throughout the room. With something as large as your column you will need some large objects with color on the opposing wall. Window treatments, wall art, huge vase or sculpture, you need the color to be incorporated in an area carpet. The decision making process has to start with the feeling you want the room to convey. The next decision is what colors enhance that feeling. Third is selection of the color....See MorePizzaz Needed for Front of House
Comments (11)A quick way to spiff up the exterior would be to repaint the shutters in exactly the same brownish cranberry color because one coat would do it. There may be old paint cans in the garage with the name of the color on them so you can get a new can mixed. Once you are ready to spend some money on the exterior, a new paint scheme would be an excellent update. Do an armchair driveby with google streetview of new developments in your area to see what is fashionable. Paint color trends vary by location....See MoreHow to add Covered Porch to low roof house
Comments (12)so you want to sit outside while it's raining? is that your wish? lol The roofline is low, but with some modifications it might work. I don't know what your budget is, but w/the right amount of money, you can do just about anything. Have you checked w/any roofing professionals? This has almost the same type of roof slope. heres a covered patio. this is a rendition though. this one too. perhaps you could do a metal roof overhang. Why not settle for a pergola? of course sitting out in the rain isn't going to work, but anything else will be ok. And, this will be a whole lot cheaper...See Moregrapefruit1_ar
