To keep or remove window over fireplace?
Comments (35)Why is it okay to look up at a movie screen but not a TV? When we have a TV connected up (we don't right now), it's low and on a piece of furniture, because I don't want a fixed altar of media worship on the wall whether it's at the baseboard or the ceiling. But several people I know have TVs mounted high on the wall even though they do not have fireplaces, and I don't know, I have never found it all that uncomfortable. However, they don't really lie there and watch TV, they seem to watch it mostly from a standing position when they are doing stuff in the kitchen or sitting at the table....See Moretree keep or remove?
Comments (23)It may not be the popular opinion but I would get rid of the trees because of the surface roots and unpleasant litter. We've removed trees in each of our houses for various reasons. First house it was a mulberry with a lot of surface roots and poor form and a chinaberry whose seeds where a tripping hazard and nuisance. Second house it was a slew of invasive salt cedars, a damaged pine tree and a canary island date palm because their ultimate massive size deserves big landscapes IMHO. Third house it was six volunteer mesquites from the neighbors that requires constant cleaning up of dropping branches with impaling 2 inch thorns and leaf litter. in each case we put in more appropriate trees that we and future owners can love. No sin in that....See MoreKeep the wall or remove the wall?
Comments (5)in what context? in other words what do you have in mind if you removed the wall? you are not using the peninsula for seating. if you used an L shape or just the long wall / got rid of the fridge wall /or cleared the wall... and eliminate the peninsula you could have an island w stools facing your long wall . this isnt just "removing the wall" but rather an entire kitchen renovation. it seems coming in from patio doors these kinds of seating options incorporated into a kitchen plan would work well for the space. what do you have? about 16-18 feet from patio door wall to fridge wall? If you recently bought the home just think out some ideas.. the kitchen isnt malfunctioning or broken down but the options for this kind of a space are numerous and maybe in the not distant future a total reno would be warranted. these are nicer looking kitchens and would be an improvment over what you show in looks and versatility of the space you could create....See MoreRemove or Keep?
Comments (17)@rosaprimula, I have not decided. I for sure was leaning towards the "chop it down school" but the pendulum is moving back towards the privacy consideration as mentioned most recently by @LaLennoxa 6a/b Hamilton ON. So now I am 'waffling', trying to keep my foot in both camps. Specifically, look at my potential prune line and so maybe I can cut it back by about half (all to the right of the red/orange line). I know if this was a hedge made up of cedars, such a drastic prune would not be good as the green foliage would never regrow. But is this true as well for this evergreen, this...Yew? Can I cut it back this hard and the cut right side will again fill in with evergreen foliage? (Here is what the lower part of this Yew looks like nearer the ground. And so the best I could do myself would be to cut it back to maybe a foot from the ground and so it isn't as if I could plant anything there instead subsequent to the cut down.)...See Moremy_home_sweet_home
