New owner of Peace Lily - need advice
Comments (2)If it where mine, I'd try and pull, or cut all those dead stems out, or even pull the whole root-ball out and cut that dry stuff out that way. You can even cut the individual healthy plants apart with their own root-balls attached (leave soil around them) as to not disturb them too much and then getting rid of the dead parts. Then plant the healthy green ones back into the same pot, or one slightly smaller. You want an inch to spare between the roots and inside of the pot. Comments (1)Oh, I love the sophisticated look of Peace Lilies. Although I'm not very knowledgeable on everything you mentioned, I do know that if it is cold you could try to push it through till spring to repot her, if it's still warm and it's only starting to cool up, repot her for the winter. If she has a bloom, it seems like she's really liking the care! I have my Peace Lilies in regular potting mix and I don't let them droop too much before I water them. If she has root rot, I'd pick up some fungicide, spray it on the root ball, repot her, rinse her down and give it a nice soaking and wait till the soil dries. This usually works for me, you just have to keep checking on the roots and the general look of the plant. Others will give you more experienced information, but good luck!...See MoreSad Peace Lily. Comments (8)When you water it, do you flush out the entire pot? Or do you only give it small amounts, so that it doesn't drain through? It looks like it's not getting watered properly, causing mineral buildup within the soil. That's most likely why its leaves are turning brown along the edges. Judging from your photos, the soil looks way too dry. If it were my plant, I would soak the entire pot in water all the way up to the soil line. After about an hour, I would drain the water away and then flush it with plenty of fresh water until the murky water runs clear out of the drainage holes. This would help to remove most of the minerals that have accumulated within the soil. This, however, is just a quick short term fix. I would repot it with some fresh soil as soon as possible; using a fast-draining soil that doesn't stay soggy, such as a mix designed for cacti & succulents. With the sun getting lower on the horizon, I would move it closer to a window that receives plenty of filtered sunlight. It needs to gather up as much energy as it can to recover, and it can only do that thru photosynthesis....See MoreMy not so peacful Peace Lily
Comments (7)I've had mine go completely bone dry before finally beginning to wilt. This wasn't intentional, I only mention it to point out that the wilting isn't from underwatering. Peace lilies love water, but their roots also love fresh air, so drainage is a must. I would also advise giving it much brighter indirect sunlight. Just because some plants can tolerate low light levels, it doesn't mean that they prefer it that way. Never seek advice from a big box employee. For most of them, it's just a job; they're paid to be there. They don't care about providing accurate advice. You're better off seeking out someone shopping there that actually wants to be there. More often than not, that's where you'll find me, HaHa. I've certainly helped other shoppers whenever they needed it....See MoreAbby Mac
