Enclosing Trees against a South facing heated wall any ideas?
Comments (6)Hi ep, Im in Nassau on the North Shore about 5 mins from the sound. I have 3 Trees, a celeste 10 years old and a green genoa probably at least 10 years old as well. The third tree is a small white fig not sure of the variety about 2 years old. The celeste and genoa were previously potted and this will be their 1st winter in the ground. They were too big and heavy to manage in the pots for me The unknown variety I got as young plant from an Italian genlteman who is the superintendant of a private school in Jamaica Estates. The parent tree is extremely cold hardy I saw it in January a few years back uncovered and in the open. I asked him whe he didnt cover and he told me he hasnt covered it in the 15 years its been there. I went back in spring and was amazed there was no dieback at all. I traded him genoa cuttings and he gave me a young tree he made off the parent tree. I have seen a lot of guys in whitestone and bayside and some here in Nassau making enclosures of plywood on 3 sides and their trees do well so I decided to try it. I feel the tarp enclosure method will be quick and easy to deploy and take down in the spring. The wiltpruf is added insurance as its not terribly expensive to buy. Im curious where on the island are you that you dont need to cover at all? Finally if you or any others are interested I will post pictures of the trees and the progress of the enclosure assembly....See MoreA Little Progress in the Kitchen, Wallpaper Question
Comments (24)I have not been on this forum for a long time but I had to comment. I just finished taking down a powder room full of wallpaper. I wanted to comment on a product called Gardz, it is made by Zinsser (sp?) It is wonderful for helping fix dry wall. If you get the paper down and have places that need mud and sanding, put this product on the spots before mudding. It seals everything, then mud, sand, and cover the spots again with Gardz. I just totally rolled the whole room with it. It is oil based, so I just threw the roller away. It is thin and milky looking and a little goes a long way. It really helps prepare your walls for paint or wallpaper. When I took down a whole foyer of wallpaper, the walls were so damaged that I had a drywaller skim coat them again. The painter I hired asked what I put on the walls, I told him that I rolled them with Gardz to prepare the new drywall and he said he really likes the product. No I do not sell this product, it is actually hard to find, just trying to help a fellow person taking down that dreaded wallpaper!...See MoreMoulding/Wallpaper/Window Treatment Question
Comments (7)Maybe after you move in we can see the other two walls in your bedroom, along with a floor plan that has measurements. That would help us help you. What about putting the bed on the left wall that has the pictures hung on it? As for the "crown;" if it really is crown, you could replicate it on the other side of the room. You can do it more cheaply by mimicking the pattern of it with trim pieces put together to get the look. Look for DIY faux crown online. Maybe this was originally two rooms that someone opened up. You could treat the crowned section as a tray ceiling and repeat that on the other side too. Not many Houzzers are big wallpaper fans and I can't advise on that. Move in, prime the walls so there is no color distraction and pull out your bedding so we can help you find the right paint color....See MoreThoughts on wallpaper accent wall?
Comments (12)IMO dark green would be my last choice of paint color in that space.Sorry I need to know what you want this space to be like when done. Those cabinets are screaming dated and way too dark. IMO if you want some green in the space do thecabinets a nice pale green and the walls a warm white BTW hanging wall paper does not work well on painted panelling and there is IMO no place for wallpaper in this space. Are you changing flooring ? I think we need a lot more info BTW all the lighting needs to be changed to LEDs 4000K before choosing anything .IMO you needed to have adesigner from the beginning and is that a TV on the staircase wall? IMO the whole point of idea books is to give a glimpse into your style and not one of yours is anything like what you are planning. BTW painted stone is never a good look and that FP is the best part of the space ....See Moremorz8 - Washington Coast
