Need to paint house one color: 2 components are brick, aluminum
Comments (9)Haha paintguy, it may be true. I just don't like what I see every single day when I pull up to my house. Can you answer my question about the way that aluminum siding may take (and retain) paint compared with the brick? I know it makes no sense, as Graywings said, but I have seen this happen to some houses similar to mine that are all painted the same color... it's weird. On my run this morning, I saw a ranch that is part brick and part siding all painted one color with white trim. Very cute. The color was a medium taupey gray. Let me ask you this: let's say I DID paint the whole house one color. Would it look wrong to have that strip of aluminum that runs right underneath the overhang on the right painted white? that would definitely offset any coloration differences, but it might look stupid....See MoreExterior help - paint full house, limewash brick, just paint siding?
Comments (10)@Zone4 yeah, I think I'm starting to realize that the brick probably helps break up the facade and keep it interesting. I'm starting to be really intrigued with the limewashing idea. If it turns out we could paint the windows, would you do black or white? I like the idea of a black/charcoal, but have also heard that is the worst color on vinyl windows. @aprilneverends it has been hard to really get the colors across from the listing pics. Basically it is 50 shades of unappealing (to me at least) tan inside and out. So I want a dramatic change, but I know people are really torn about changing brick, so I'll probably have my husband mockup a version with the brick and a dark greige paint to see how that looks alongside a limewashed version. Front door, yes, that thing has a big stain glass Texas star that doesn't help anything. I was thinking one of the modern doors with 3-5 satin horizontal lites to keep some light coming in from the door, then finding a complimentary garage door. For the French doors, I definitely won't change my mind on the divided lites - however they are just an overlay on top of a solid piece of glass, so one of the contractors said you could just pop them off. One set of doors needs a new handle, the other needs about $300 in repair work and weatherproofing, so that is why I'm debating whether or not to rehab these versus put in new ones. And if we replace, I don't know if sliding glass doors that let in tons of light or new French doors with the thinnest frame possible would look best. I know landscaping will have a huge impact too, and could really turn this into a more modern looking house. The bones are certainly good, and it is plain enough that we can subtly take it in a couple directions, just trying to narrow down what will look best while also being somewhat our style....See MoreHow to colour coordinate house brick, siding, concrete block exterior
Comments (18)Thank you thank you ALL so much for these amaaaazing comments and support for the colour and landscaping - truly grateful for such a great response. We have considered a back deck - it's one of our upcoming investments we are planning for. And we are getting the entire front yard graded... so we'll be able to properly planted beds - strategically placed to take some attention off the block. We love the drama of the darkest charcoal colour - wow that image attached of the charcoal house is amazing! @housegal200 Thank you @celerygirl for so many colour options - leaning toward the gray shades, on the darker side. We totally plan no shutters. don't plan to paint the brick, and... maybe we will, cause we love to veer when it's a good choice- even if it's last minute. Our plan is to xeroscape overall and have garden beds. Thank you all so much!! we'll check in again in case you have more inspiration to share!! xoxoxoxo...See MoreSiding, roof, shutter colors on orange brick house
Comments (22)Thanks Maureen! I don't intend to paint the brick or porch. If we redo the porch in the future, we'd get a non-red color. As for the mulch, I'm definitely planning dark. Maybe a dark brown, maybe a black. I think cypress might pull too much of the red? Not sure. We also planted a row of tall white daisies all along the front of the porch to help break up the red. We were able to match the grays in person with Mastic Victorian Grey so that is what we have ordered. We will have shake style on the front gable and traditional horizontal siding on the gables on the sides and back. We need to finalize roof and shutter colors. I am about 80% sure we are going with the landmark pro moire black roof. I get what you're saying about the shutters, but there does appear to be discoloration behind them. I'm thinking board and batten style shutters in medium grey. Then I'll be looking into the trim and door painting. Thinking white trim (currently cream) and a bright tealy blue for the door....See MoreChris Miller
