Shower replacement problems. What can and should be done?

My friend's tile shower was replaced with a vinyl shower. This is how it came out (pending spackle/finish work), and it looks wrong to us. We're coming to you for advice on how to handle the situation. It looks wrong, to put it bluntly. Shouldn't the shower pan go all the way out to the edge of the vinyl wall? If not, shouldn't the wallboard go all the way back to the pan? Also, the way the baseboard molding on both sides sticks out beyond the thickness of the vinyl wall, and ends abruptly

It seems the vendor didn't take into account the tile border around the shower when taking measurements (see before picture).

It’s a standard budget replacement job. They DID take into account the tile border. That’s why the plastic wall extends past the curb. Exactly like the tile border of the shower did. That bit of wall needs to be protected from moisture damage. Once the transition to drywall has backer rod, caulk, and the walls are properly repainted, it will be fine. That’s usually your painter’s responsibility, not the insert technician’s. The molding to the left does need to be beveled back, rather than ending at a 90, but that’s simple to fix too.

@live_wire_oak, are the pans only made in certain sizes? The assumption was that the pan would extend out to the edge of the vinyl wall.

This line-- But I'm pretty sure the liner must have collected some moisture by now. I try to keep up with the caulking, but... makes me think it should be replaced. There should be no need to keep up with the caulking".

I love those pictures with the beautiful curtains. But looking closely at my room, I'm not sure I have room for sheers to the side of the windows. The space between the window trim and room corners is not very big. If I do do curtains, would I only do them over the window behind the love seat? Not around the two windows on the wall with the bed next to the night stands right? I am definitely going to move the art. Building for the CATS, that bedding is very pretty! The lamps are also very nice... but would I have to get an electrician? I'm not sure I want to get into that... I had an electrician come last year and move a plug 12 inches in my media room and it was very difficult, time consuming, and costly b/c of the way our attic is constructed. nosoccermom, I do like the glass table, some of those overstock ones look nice. They might pick up the color of the little birds in my other table. I really like the idea of the ceramic garden stool too and I'm looking for one that would pick up the sofa colors... ingrid, not too critical at all. I do like a cozy bedroom :) k9arlene I will look for lamps... maybe blue ceramic from the prior suggestion. Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I am on the hunt for bedding now!

Shower wall tile lippage - done and redone, still problems!!

I've read on this site that some (all?) extremely large format rectangular tiles tend to have some bowing to them due to the size and what happens during manufacturing. I believe Avanti (the pro above) is suggesting that you simply cannot avoid the lippage / visible bowing when doing a 1/2 stagger like your picture.

Additional question for people that may know how to lay tile: (I don't have the slightest optimism that this was installed correctly, I would just like to know the proper way to lay the tile) Our subcontractor installed our ceramic floor tile over wire mesh. Now there are several tiles that are sinking (not drastically, but someone can still trip over them). Is there a process that's supposed to happen between laying the mesh and then laying the tile to ensure that the floor installation will be level?

That’s an incorrect assumption, and would be an incorrect installation unless that whole wall on the left were covered with acrylic. The waterproofing surface cladding must extend past the curb. Just like what was there.

There are makers who create custom acrylic pans. They would be more than the cost of the standard kit in your picture. Just for the pan. Plus custom wall and trim. Plus the additional installation costs for the additional risk for measuring and installing custom. This should all have been clarified in a design document before a contract was finalized.

This is a non-issue. It is not complete and the customer knows as much. It seems, from a distance, as if proper planning went in to it.

Shower pans come in standard sizes. If the seams are caulked properly and waterproofed, it should be fine. I hope there will be a real shower door with drip edge, because the shower pan is very shallow and there will be water splashing.
