Maximum tile height from hard wood threshold
Comments (1)If you haven't, you need to talk to your tile guy first. What's the substrate going to be? Folks tend to step over thresholds, not on them. I just installed a marble floor in a bathroom and had to beef up and level the floor first (ply, cement board, leveler, etc.). The difference in finished floor height was about 1". I had a 4" x 1 1/4" thick threshold custom made, with a bevel on both edges (larger bevel on one side). I installed it level - no slope. Looks and feels perfect, i.e no trip hazard or any of that....See MoreThreshold material with ceramic wood tile floor?
Comments (3)I would for the dam use the floor tile for sure. It looks really good and help keeps the floor from getting too busy. We did a shower build last year with the wood tile and changed a small neo angle shower into a large walk in shower with low curb. We used the wood tile for the shower floor, bathroom floor, shower curb and walls....See MoreTo transition wood floor direction at step threshold or not? Plz help!
Comments (5)Thanks for these comments !! very light lvp. we are on an incredibly tight budget so unfort dont have a lot of options (please advise if you know of a great lvp!!!). i am considering megaclic grand collection in ash color… (the one on the left. the sample on right is much darker with no light…) the kitchen cabinets will stay (ill stain them slightly darker walnut) but new counters (ceasarstone clamshell, sold at ikea for 1/2 the price) the rock fireplace going -before floors :-) good point that changing the direction might help with the trip hazard… lvp will also be on stairs and upstairs. railings will change too. going for something like this but trying to find someone to build it for not crazy $...See MoreTile threshold between wood and LVT?
Comments (21)One more thought in case you haven't decided. Find a tile refinisher. Here's a picture from one in my area. Yes, you lose the contrasting grout but it might be a lower cost solution while you budget for the most desirable change, adding hardwood to match the rest of your house. (well, looks like pics are posting on Houzz again today, so here's a link to the site https://renov8co.com/gallery/#form) I've decided to refinish the olive green tile of a very, very rarely used guest bath shower (not my bath above) instead of replacing the tile. I'm doing three bathrooms at once, major painting, a new driveway and replacing flooring in a lower level. The costs are just crazy, crazy so I'm looking for ways to reduce the budget. When I read you have three elementary school age children, my heart went out to you. You may be flush with funds, so all these lower cost options might not be necessary, but just in case you aren't flush with funds, please don't get sucked into the HGTV vortex of having to have the very best renovation at the cost of other things in your life. Also, time impacts our decisions so much. I see countless design choices I really wanted ten, even five years ago that I am so happy I didn't do. All the best to you!...See MoreLyndee Lee
