An unknown crash in our house. It is usually so quiet.

Screamer (a constantly screaming child) in a restaurant that keeps going on and on. What’s wrong with parents who won’t attend to their child? We have been tempted to get up and leave or have asked to be moved, depending on the status of our meal. It truly hurts my ears.

My sadness or depression. They worsen if I ignore them.

My house's fire alarm. It is so loud, you swear you will go insane if it doesn't stop.

A screaming child. I have to leave the area or block out the noise in some physical way.

A migraine is #1 for me. Fortunately I only rarely get them, but it's bad when I do.

Barking dogs. Mine, or someone else's. If it's mine, you can bet the barking will stop pronto. If it's someone else's, that barking is like a jack hammer in my brain. I have no idea how people can stand to let their own dogs bark for HOURS.

A crying baby. Same issue as above. :) As long as I see parents attending to the baby then I will deal - but if we're out in public and the parents are ignoring the screaming, it's a jack hammer in my brain.

Nothing eats through my brain like a baby crying/screaming. And it doesn't matter if the parents are trying to calm the baby or not.

@whatsayyou - Yours does that as well! So does mine. I'm a bit of a Star Trek fan, any and all of them. And he will stand and watch it if he comes into the room when I am watching one but he doesn't know one Star Trek from another.

Someone nearby coughing or sneezing without COVERING THEIR MOUTH. Eww, eww, eww! And a co-worker who does it all day will find a fresh box of tissues set down it front of them with a reproving look.

Stomach ache in the middle of the night. Just get up and eat something already, because you're not going back to sleep until you do.

Great photo opportunities (especially wildlife)

Wildlife (I will stop what I'm doing to observe deer, bears, coyotes, foxes, etc.) Over the years, I've learned a lot about their behavior and habits thru observation. Did you know that deer can and will kill a snake with their front hooves?

Lumpy socks makes me think of when socks slide down inside a pair of shoes or boots and get all wadded up at the toe. I hate that and another thing I can't ignore for very long!

The singing group Styx (or Adele) on the radio. It’s like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. On my way to work this morning Styx came on and I had to flip the station immediately; yep, it’s gonna be a bad day.

The furnace running at the crematorium next door to where I work. All day almost everyday. Looking forward to the day I don't have to hear it.

Really? I'll bet the rent for that office is low, it doesn't sound like it's a prime location.

Really. My employer owned the office space we occupy for years, this guy came in August of 2018. He specializes in obese people and the burn time is really long. There's days that it just runs and runs. And no, he brings the bodies and processes them and leaves. Not a pleasant atmosphere. I see a lot of urns leaving.

Earthquakes, if they are large enough for me to feel.

Hangry - that's hungry causing crankiness. My son tries to prevent that from happening to his partner.

It's being courteous. If you wish to disable the reminder, go to settings and turn off sound. Ours is quiet.

I don’t like tags in clothing against my skin. I have to remove them.

Ahhh, Michael.............my microwave will disable ALL the sounds but not just one or two. And the hubs needs those beeps when he's trying to program something otherwise it throws him all off cause he thinks he's doing something wrong (which he usually is anyway). (This is a guy who only knows two buttons on any electrical appliance - "on" and "off" but I will say he does recognize a "power" button.

So I am stuck with it beeping every 30-60 seconds after a function is finished and it will insist on me getting up from my reading chair to open the door and shut it again when my chicken is defrosted. And I am with lgmd gaz, I hate it!!! But in my case, I guess its more of a husband issue than a microwave issue :)

Birds - have to look at every single one that comes into my view.

Barking dogs. Wherever, whenever...next door, or far way, or in the parked car I walk by, or the parking lot I'm waiting in. I always think, "Are their owners deaf?!!!" Makes me crazy.

I can't stand barking dogs either. Actually, any kind of repetitive noise.

Vocal fry. That’s the only reason I ever switch radio stations away from NPR. The creaky voices of some of the women being interviewed...gah!

After staying in a non-smoking hotel this week, I thought of another:

Cigarette smoke - anywhere in proximity, or at any time in the past in a room I'm sleeping in, in the loaner or rental non-smoking car that reeks, in the car ahead of me at a stop light or next to me in a parking lot when their windows are down, on the clothing of someone sitting near me in a theater or on the elevator, etc. As an ex-smoker, I am the recipient of karmic torture for what I likely did to others in the past.

Dumb@ss honking their giant pickemuptruck horn right as I walked in front of it at Wal-mart. It was parked and I had parked next to them, they were putting stuff in the back (3 guys) as I walked by. They honked several times before that but did it again as I walked by, startled me and I said a bad word very loudly.

Earache or toothache.

Commercials that send a positive "we can do this" message. When I saw it, it reminded me of my daughter.

Ignore the sales pitch. The message comes between 0-18 seconds.

In addition to vocal fry, there is also High Rising Terminal (HRT), or uptalk, which is equally annoying. Sing-song accents can also be bad, but it depends on the language. Schweitzer-Deutsch typically has a sing-song accent and can identify a speaker as being Swiss.

In English, interrogative sentences generally do end with a vocal rise, but declarative sentences do not. In Italian, interrogative sentence do not end with a vocal rise (intonation does not change), but declarative sentences end with a lowered intonation.

My dry cracked hands! Ow, ow, ow. I put O'Keeffe's Working Hands on and wear white gloves to bed. Usually this gives me some relief but this year it doesn't seem like it's working much.

Maryl have you tried capsules of vitamin e as well as your O'Keeffe's. At least that worked for me. And then dawn the white gloves and go to sleep.

The sing-song tones of Schweitzer Deutch dialect speakers seems to creep into their pronunciation of English, standard German, French, too. And is even sometimes discernible in the French and English spoken by French mother tongue Swiss too.

I find Scandinavian languages also can be sing-songy at times too.

I find none of them bothersome, maybe a bit cute.
