fireplace design help needed, thanks!
Comments (9)Everyone loves this color of tan. It is not pink/green/yellow. I found this color in the model home my sis bought and had it colormatched at OSH. Easy Living Gallon 7986. C- 0.3 L- 0.66 plus 1 This is what stamp says. I tried making this color about 5 times when I saw it in her house. She liked the red I used in my living room so much she used it in her dining room. We like all the same colors, she is just more formal and I am more contemporary. The granite is similar to Uba Tuba that so many use. This one just has more black and tan in it. DH is just concerned that the upper area is so stark right now. He says if we want to make any changes, now is the time....See MoreStone fireplace design help
Comments (5)I think it would be helpful to see the whole room, for a better sense of style and your decor/furniture placement, before we can give you advice on the right style of mantel for your space. I love the chunky reclaimed wood mantel's like Peter suggests, but depending on the room, it may not be the right fit. Wall color is really pretty, and I like the brick - the colors work together....See MoreOld Off-centered stone fireplace design help

Comments (15)I'm sorry, I did not realize there was brick on the wall below the stone hearth. I changed my mind.... on how I would approach this. To keep costs more minimal... I would remove the brick around the firebox, remove the hearth because I now see the the stone is chipped on the right side. Remove the brick below the hearth. Use ledger surround entirely around the firebox, not going to the ceiling (my drawing above. I would build a raised hearth. I'm (not sure if a pathway would be directed that close to the wall corner). I think it would feel more comfortable if the hearth is not raised to avoid falling or tripping, coming around the corner....pathway might be too close to that wall corner..... I would 'not' raise the hearth. I would install a tile (maybe marble) as a hearth imbedded in the floor next to the wood flooring. I think visually it would feel better... because it is so close to the wall edge of that space. You can keep the firebox where it is....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
