Definitely redo the one that was ordered too small. As for the other 2 do they meet all your other requirements for the overall design?

Sound to me more like the GC dropped the ball here than anything.

1. The slider is certainly on the smaller size and will create a smaller look. You can likely get away with another casement there if you want a venting window or an awning window.
2. Be sure that the picture window is ordered from the same series as the casement window so that the frame reveals on the inside are more consistent as they will be from the same series of the window and have a similar frame lineal design.
3. There is no reason you should need to hold up the kitchen renovations here. You should be able to keep going and make some progress.

Are you doing a tile backsplash that will have tile inside the jambs of the windows? If not, I would prefer the pre-attached wood jamb there as it will hold up a bit better than a sheetrock return inside a kitchen area. Not sure if that just isn't part of the design or if you don't have any interior trim in the specifications.

Most of what you are dealing with and seeing is NOT a window issue as much as it is an ordering issue.

Thank you!! Appreciate your comments. The GC just asked us what we wanted and when we told him an awning window he said they don’t make them that size and we would have to go with a slider.
He never mentioned that the casement would have a different white vinyl frame (it’s very detailed with 3 ridges), although it’s from the same Tuscany series.
Our goal was to get as much light into the kitchen as possible and he suggested the fixed above the kitchen sink (that has the ugly frame) The casement next to it was ordered wrong - hinge needs to be in left to open right, yet he’s taking no responsibility. Never confirmed order with us after we told him hinge on left.
The slider “feels” too small but if we pitch that and order new we have to pay (obviously since we agreed on that size) and the framer needs to come back to frame a larger opening. I’m told the windows will take 3 weeks, so that holds up the entire kitchen. This is what they are telling me.
Can anyone comment? This forum is so helpful for me, as I’m not in the trade and need to speak to my GC today about these issues.

Will you be able to reach the locks and handle on the casement window? If there is a counter in front, you better have long arms, especially for the two window locks stuck in the corner.

Lisa, yes exactly! I was so upset when I saw that casement window hinged on the wrong side, and I said the same thing to my GC about locking it. I’m so unhappy, and yes the counter will be in the way.

Thinkdesignlive - it wasn’t ordered too small, apparently I approved that size but now that I see it I’m so unhappy and t looks so small. Because Milgard has so much white vinyl, the 36” window actually only has 29” of glass so it looks very small and makes the space look funny (IMHO) I’m waiting to see the cost of reframing and ordering a larger window. Meeting with GC soon and appreciate all feedback -

Follow up: got a much larger window and so happy. Thrilled with Milgard, we had an issue with one window and they came and replaced the glass. Great service and happy we went with Milgard despite the difference in case style. Now after living in thr kitchen a year, I don’t even see it….! Thanks to everyone for letting me vent and get feedback!
