8ft kitch ceiling, what type of light over island?
Comments (27)Thought I would update the thread I started when I was trying to figure out what type of light to get for above the island with an 8 foot ceiling. Well here are some pics. We chose a pendant light we found (Juno onyx) at Design Expo. With our GC's help we got a flat ceiling mount/transformer (the one at the store was more conical) We wanted something with a low profile, because of the 8 ft ceiling. We love it. Thanks to all of you for your invaluable help. Here are some close up pics of the lights....See Moreisland hood vent + light fixture(s) over peninsu w/8 ft ceilings?
Comments (5)I was asking recently about a hood and small pendants (older thread). My solution involves the symmetry of two small pendants working with the hood. I like high-hats for their unobtrusive lighting, but my personal taste is to have something decorative providing some light and some style at the same time. I say yes, do a pendant. It's hard to visualize your space, but from the description I'm thinking a long bar light over the peninsula, and the hood over the island....See MorePlease share pic of your 8ft Living Room Ceiling Light Fixture

Comments (11)If all the other doors are 6’8”, no, it won’t look right. Consistency is important. The issue here was the original decision to use 6’8“ doors in the first place. It has locked you into an expensive all or nothing change scenario. You’re also potentially introducing incompatible structural alterations, and exterior cladding changes, with moving the header up. It depends on the load that the wall carries. Get out your plans and have the structural evaluated first. Improper flashing won’t be confined to the doors. Start inspecting all of the penetrations. From the roof through the dryer vent. All require flashing. https://www.buildingscience.com/documents/information-sheets/common-flashing-details...See MoreLucy R
