family room decor dilemma, need ideas
Comments (20)I would not add blue to this room. The orange looks great, and suits the woodwork very well. The wall looks, to me, like it has some olive green tones in it. Green is the complementary color to orange, so that's why the walls and sofa look good, and go well with the rug which has both those colors. Blue would be jarring. The rug is a bit too small since the furniture does not touch it. I would face the sofa towards the fireplace with the rug in front of the sofa, with the sofa feet touching the rug. The gold chairs could go on either side of the sofa in a C shape, or remain side by side in an L shape conversation area. I'd put the orange pillows back on the sofa, and get new pillows for the gold chairs, in a solid green color taken from the rug. Consider a similar color for the drapes. I wouldn't put art over the fireplace, and definitely not a mirror since it wouldn't reflect anything interesting. Stick with sculptural items, maybe a bit bigger than the items you have now. Hang a piece of art work over each of those lovely bookshelves, a little lower than you currently have the one painting. Or even prop it on top. But don't put other things (vase, clock) on top of them. Too fussy and distracts from the woodwork. 2 desks is one too many in the room. Keep a desk on the wall where the guitar is, and leave the other wall free of furniture, as a walkway. Your white front door is a bit too bright, and doesn't look good with your woodwork. Paint it a green color, not too pale, that looks good with your pillows, rug and wall....See MoreFamily room paint dilemma
Comments (6)Wall colr is one of the last choices you make and since the kitchen is still in reno stage I would wait often the color you think you want does not work when a ll teh other elements are in . Your designer should know this BTW and without knowing anything about your furniture it would be impossible to advise on wall colr . I will tell you blues are one of the most difficult colors to get right without it looking like a baby nursery so be careful and when mixing the blue with another wall color it gets even more tricky. I happen to like the robins egg blue you have for pillows but would not paint a whole room that color I think the blue you are thinking is too dark and does not play well with the gray...See MoreFamily room awkward wall dilemma
Comments (3)Do you have a lot of books? We never seem to have enough shelves for them. You could consider a row of low bookcases under the windows with a nice art piece between them....See MoreFamily room design dilemma
Comments (11)The furniture is going to run under the big window and "turn" along the slider door wall whether you opt for a sectional or a chaise. I would prefer the finished edge of a sectional with an armrest which also creates the option for a side table. A sectional can still be used to stretch out on like a chaise but has the benefit of a back for someone to lean against instead of sitting on the edge. What are you going to do about side tables and lighting? The corner is very comfortable and if you're lounging and have a beverage, it can seem like a long stretch to the coffee table, especially if you select the deep seating. You may want to consider a sofa table behind the longer piece as a place to set drinks and of course, you can also place lamps on it. Or, a C table that tucks under the seating can also be used. It looks like the 128" will work but I'd figure out the other key pieces you're going to need and know those measurements and flow before deciding....See Morelittlebug zone 5 Missouri
