Best 36" counter depth fridge for less than 3K?
Comments (12)I was excited to shop for a new fridge for our new home build, until I actually started shopping. My current fridge is a GE Profile SXS in white and will be relegated to the garage at the new house. It has served us well but I need SS counter depth and I want a built in look - no ice/water in the door and no SXS. I love the sub zero and it fits well with my cheffy aesthetic and mindset. But, out of the budget at 9K. Leibehrr is very nice and a good alternative but again too spendy at 5K. Also, we would have to modify the upper cabinets to install a taller fridge. Too many other things yet to purchase with our new house build. But definitely the look and function I am going for. I also wanted a single door but not readily available in counter depth and freestanding models. I actually considered a fridge only single door model(love all the space for the fresh foods I cook with) and could live with a freezer in the garage, but living in the central CA Valley, we would miss the ice. Then I thought we could install an ice maker in the kitchen but again, the cost factor and uncertainty of where we would install it - it is a new house but not custom and we would have to retrofit it somewhere in the kitchen(BTW if anyone has done that please chime in....) I narrowed it down to the KA, Jenn Air and Viking SS CD French door models with internal water dispenser. They are essentially the same inside - all made by Whirlpool - with minor differences including the handles and the KA and Viking have removable liners on the door bins. Viking is the cheapest at our appliance dealer($2899) and I like the looks of it with the pro handles. Jenn Air is $3249 with $300 rebate and KA pro handle style is $3199. Viking carries a 3 year warranty which is very good since we tend not to purchase extended warranties. We will be moving in the end of December and need to decide and buy a refrigerator soon. I appreciate all the information I get on this site!...See MoreFisher&Paykel vs Bertazzoni? F&P DishDrawers enough space?
Comments (2)The drawers work for my family of 4, but you do start to lose the advantage of the drawers if you easily run one big load a day. They do hold a lot though, and staggering small loads might work better than doing less frequent big loads. It's much easier to get someone to unload a drawer than a full size DW. You'll get used to whatever you have I suspect. I don't know what the advantage of stainless over plastic is, really, aside from sparkle...that's the least of the differences between drawers and traditionals. I can say that F&P customer service is really nice and responsive and you talk to a real human quickly when you call them (my stupid installer threw away parts...)....See MoreNXR, Fisher Paykel, Bertazzoni 36 inch gas range opinions please
Comments (1)Don't know anything about the F&P. Never seen one. Don't recall any posrings on them. Might help garner comments if you can post a model number. Comparing Bertas and NXRs is a bit like comparing high-style Italian-made sedans (Bertas) to basic, manual-everything, industrial styled imported high-lift 4wd pick-ups for ranch work and off-roading capabilities (NXRs). Bertas are sleek, counterdepth, euro-ranges. Used to be that you could get them in colors. I suppose you've already tried searching for threads? (Sometimes helps if you go out to google and use a search string like "gardenweb + berta"). Have you seen this current thread? http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2981897/any-users-reviews-of-bertazonni-36-gas-cooktop-or-rangetop?n=9 They have narrower cooktops (that's the counter-depth part) with some peculiarities in operation of the cooktop and oven. Don't know anything about LP conversions of Bertas. If you like the Euro-style appliances (narrow cooktops, small ovens, etc.), you might look into the Ancona ranges at Costco. More Italian euro-style equipment but about half the cost of the Bertas. Most of the NXR postings here have been about the 30" models. Friends of mine on the coast have had a 36" NXR since 2009 and are still pleased. I've had my 30" model for going on three years now. Don't know much about the LP conversion kits except that Costco.com carries them as extras for (I think) around $50. We've had some postings here from folks who had the LP conversions done for them by their vendors and a couple of those folks weren't happy with the quality of the conversion work. Otherwise, the NXR seems to be favored more by the DIY crowd. Great for those who like those capabilities and have the ability and interest in doing their own maintenance and repairs and/or fiddling when and if needed....See MoreWant 36" Induction Range...Wolf? Fisher & Paykel? Other? Suggestions?
Comments (3)This is a bit old I see with only one comment, but I’m looking for a 36” slide in induction range as well. Dan1888 I’m wondering why you like the 36” cooktop over the built in 30” oven underneath? I’ve viewed pictures and didn’t like the look as well, except the 36” Wolf Induction cooktop with the 36” Wolf built in oven underneath....See MoreMichael A
