Recommendation: Side by side Counter depth SS Fridge
Comments (9)The Ikea Datid or Nutid S23 are worth checking out - basically the same thing as the Whirlpool WRS965CIAM with different handles and missing the beverage rack (which can be ordered from the parts department if you must have it), but with an excellent 5-year warranty, and often a lower price. Similar refrigerators are also sold under the Kenmore, KitchenAid, and Jenn-Air brands, the latter two which Whirlpool owns. There are two heights available, the taller ones are about 72"h, almost 3" higher than the shorter ones for a bit of extra space inside if you have the height available. The Ikea is short only, Jenn-Air tall only, and the Whirlpool and Kitchenaid available both ways. These are new designs, with sleek LED lighting, wide glass shelves, and icemakers that don't take up any room in the main freezer compartment. There are minor feature differences between the different brands, but they're all the same basic design, and a vast improvement over the outmoded refrigerators Whirlpool was making until last year. The Electrolux Icon (and less-expensive Electrolux, Kenmore, and Frigidaire offshoots) are also worth a look, as are Samsung and LG....See MoreFrozen pizza box in side-by-side fridge
Comments (10)Our new counter depth Whirlpool SxS is just as small. Largest freezer shelf might barely be 12"W x 12"D...and that is at the top. Lower shelves are 9" deep. Our 19 year-old Amana counter depth had more generous freezer shelves, and enough shelves. I had to buy another freezer shelf to the tune of $117 for this new one. Because we would never have anything in the freezer that is 15" tall And we needed the shelf. Model WRS571CIHZ from Lowe's....See MoreHelp - Two Fisher & Paykel fridges side by side?
Comments (13)@Cedarcreek you're right we're almost being forced to choose F&P if we want that side by side look. We are considering the option of sizing it for the Frigidaire and filling it up so we can later replace it, as long as our cabinet builders can do that without making it look like a botched/forced job, haha. One other (last resort) option that we are also looking at is just getting the 48" KitchenAid Built-In fridge, but that is significantly more expensive than the F&P pair and is less wide than the 2 F&Ps combined. Such a tough decision! Appreciate your suggestion though....See Morekitchen help: two 24" fridges with freezer bottom, side by side?
Comments (35)Of course, anyone reading this has to remember that all 19 people writing to BBB are unhappy. The BBB link cites 88 complaints. You don't know CR's survey results -- because you don't subscribe -- but comment anyway. Why (rhetorical)? I asked if you would provide CR's data on Dacor because I do not have access to CR, and you frequently cite CR on this forum. It seemed like a straightforward request to you. As you said, BBB is only showing unhappy Dacor customers. As I said, perhaps I will be surprised by CR's rating of Dacor. I do not understand your reply to that request. Edited to add: I see that on another Houzz thread about Dacor ranges and fridges, @wdccruise commented: "The Dacor DR30G range achieved a score of 60 (out of 100) and a predicted reliability of "Poor" in CR's testing." You made a point above that quality differs in a manufacturer among the types of appliances it makes. It would be good to know if CR gives a much higher score for Dacor's fridges than the 60/Poor you cited for the range. But Dacor's/Samsung's customer service will be the same regardless of type of appliance....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
