Help Choosing Dining Table Wood Finish
Comments (5)How often do you need to seat 10? What is your every day use of the space? The reason I ask is that if you don't often need that much seating, I would look for a table with either self-storing or add-in leaves. My thinking is that way you could have a couple of modern style wing chairs that could sit by the fireplace, and then act as head chairs when you need to seat a larger crowd. The rest of the time you still have a dual use space, but not limited as it is now to a large seating space. Would you consider a round table instead? I could see that as a wonderful balance for all the hard angles in the space. It could have leaves, too, or just be a large table if you prefer. But you still might be able to keep a couple of chairs by the fire and then use them at the round table if needed. A chair like this, perhaps, in a more contemporary fabric, would work with either a rectangular or round table. Comments (40)mtnfever- thanks! Do you think that look goes better with my kitchen/DR than the Tarvine? I know the Tarvine is more fancy but think it could work anyway. I do like the simplicity of the Toscana. I wish I could see the top of it better. The Pottery Barn Frances has a plank look and looks like crumbs would get stuck in between. Also, what are all of your thoughts on doing a bench like mtnfever shows above? Actually I like the idea. I know some don't like them for getting in and out and agree that on the other side of the table the banquette bench will be a little more an issue for that. However, for this type of bench people usually just "lift a leg" and get out with out sliding down. Of course, I guess you lose the comfortability of having a chair with a back on it.. Then again, Not too often do people lean back on them during eating.... I guess more during before and after dinner conversation. A plus is that they are sometimes less $ than getting separate chairs. Christine, My fabric is not great, I think, for the banquette seat b/c it's a light fabric (in color and weight)... however maybe for some pillows. For The window seat in the same room I may use the bird fabric for the seat or again for some pillows. Maybe I could use it for a table runner : )...See Moreplease help with choosing a dining table color!
Comments (6)no matching wood chairs; there will be waaaay too much wood. Get upholstered chairs, not mismatched unless you just have the heads of the table different and watch out for height of different chairs. They don't have to be identical, but do have to be in balance. I would not match the floor or the cabinets. Can you contemplate black? The floor and the cabinets fight each other. Cabinets are modern, floor is very traditional. Go to a store which offers professional advice with several pictures. Ethan Allen is one. Do not feel obligated to buy, just ask them what they suggest and what they have which would fit. I see dark brown furniture in the back. If that is staying, you will have to think further. Why not an old table you find that can be painted a favorite colo? Inexpensive and might totally transform your space....See MorePlease help me choose kitchen table that matches this design....
Comments (2)Thank you, Samantha . -- I was trying to find something a little different, but I guess people still love the farmhouse tables. Maybe I can get really comfy chairs. What color table though? Does it have to match the dark floors? Thanks again...See MoreJodie Fredericksen
