I need to add warmth and color to family room
Comments (7)Window treatments would help - choose your favorite color, or a color from one of the pieces of artwork. I think both pieces of art have a maroon/cranberry mat - that may be a good color for window treatments. You may want to have a decorator assist - JC Penney is a good place for reasonably priced window treatments & some stores have decorators to assist. I see many places for accents/artwork - the wall next to the fireplace, the walls on either side of the windows on the TV wall, and the large wall where your trunk is. Perhaps a larger piece of furniture in place of the trunk - a side table where you can display items, even the trunk! Perhaps an area rug to anchor your furniture too....See MoreI need to add color to my boring living room. New build
Comments (28)A statement art piece above the fireplace would be a natural focal point. Try picking at least one color from the artwork and repeating it in details around the room. Also resist the urge to choose an art piece that lines up with mantel edges. Use a piece that is narrower or wider to ensure that the artwork is a feature and not just an extension of the fireplace....See MoreWhat should I add to dining room?
Comments (25)Actually, I like what celery girl has come up with in the post showing both the ikea rug and a blue one. Once you have your table centered under the light, you will not have much room left, and the narrower shelving adds texture without mass. Take a look at the two looks: does it seem to you that the first room appears spacious, and the second is a bit busy? That is because the first photo is monochromatic, and relies on texture and depth of colour for interest - a much better idea for your more intimately sized room....See MoreDining Room...need to add some interest!
Comments (22)With what shows in your pics it seems you are somewhat of a minimalist...so i would be careful with any additions....curtains or drapes may look cramped in the space that is there for them....as is what is missing is a dramatic centerpiece for the table...something low and wide as the table seems a little tall for the chairs...i might remove the two chairs in the corners and have only 6 chairs...at the table ...again establishing a more roomy but minimal look... a runner in a thick textural material would be a nice contrast with all the hard surfaces....something organic,maybe,...like woven reeds or a thick handwoven African textile....since the light fixture is a row of lights...something soft in a fan shape would add to the contrast and will catch the eye....if the sky was the limit i would bring in fewer...but bigger...softer...more luxurious chairs ...to match the scale of the table and contrast with the table’s simplicity......See Morehappyleg
