Fireplace redo in family room
Comments (18)Consider using a visualizer tool on a tile site to see what you may like. It's surprising how changing grout colors and layout makes a difference on the same tile. Arizona tile has a couple of fireplace walls in OTHER: https://justimagine.arizonatile.com/Default.aspx?_ga=2.123517643.1534067370.1583191193-1816866876.1583191193#/type/residential Tilebar allows you to upload your own photo: https://tilebar.com/features/roomvo I think a dark patterned tile could tie the fireplace surround to the TV without being too weighty,. Black and white might be too stark, but maybe deep dark blue or a charcoal that could read as dark blue since you have blue in the room. There was a Houzz article today about all the new blue tile tones. https://tilebar.com/paige-antracite-10-hexagon-matte-cement-look-porcelain-tile.html https://www.flooranddecor.com/porcelain-tile/marbella-polished-porcelain-mosaic-100609148.html https://tilebar.com/diesel-camp-blue-rock-4x12-ceramic-tile.html https://tilebar.com/angela-harris-inspira-oxide-12x24-porcelain-tile.html...See MoreRedo of fireplace.
Comments (4)The art over the mantel is a good size. I wouldn't add too much on the mantel itself--maybe two staggered-size candlesticks on one side of the art and one other item you like on the other side. I don't usually like big clocks on a wall, but that one is very pretty and the size is good. Other than adding an area rug to warm up the space, I think it's a nice room!...See Morehow to raise floor without losing sliding glass door
Comments (11)Thank you! I don‘t want to make it harder for you, but your walnut trim is wayyy prettier than our janky rough-sawn cedar was—in fact, we ripped a lot of it down and replaced it. I think lighter floors (just not gray) would look good either way. I like your big rustic support post by the steps. You can see the accent shelf we built—it hides two support beams that were previously part of a pony wall. I think a straight up bookshelf would be really pretty in your room; I can see you have some lovely ceramics to display. However, if I had toddlers I’d worry about climbing. My youngest is 7 and the knicknacks are now safe (although I did yell at my teen for tossing a football there just today)....See MoreRedoing brick fireplace
Comments (3)The drywall part is easy. Deconstructing the brick without having a damaged mess left is the hard part, and not something I would recommend for a newbie. You may be able to get the top two rows of bricks off without much inadvertent damage, but those triangular projections can't be removed unless you take off all the fireplace brick, all the way across, down to the bottom of the triangles. If you don't understand why, that's even more reason for you to not attempt this yourself. If you're really serious about this, have a brick mason look at it and explain what's possible....See MoreTara Dunnerstein
