Need to find a bedskirt and a lamp...
Comments (5)Hmm, Les, that lamp looks pretty big although they don't give the dimensions on the site. I am short, the dresser is on the tall side, and I hate looking up into lamp shades if you know what I mean. I was hoping to find a shorter lamp more along the lines of 15" tall. I'd guess the Pier One lamp is more like 24" or so. As for the room benefitting from a little black... this room has a black iron bed, black iron lamps, black curtain hardware, and the black dresser seen in the pic! Anyway, I don't know why I'm having such a hard time finding the right lamp. Continuing to look......See MoreLow profile (short drop) bedskirt?
Comments (35)I just spent hours and hours looking for a 9" drop bed skirt. It should not be this hard!!! I bought the low profile box springs, aka bunky boards (where did they ever come up with that name!) for 2 queen beds for a loft with a very low ceiling height. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your posts. All my typical online shopping sites failed me, and I thought I checked Amazon, but perhaps not. Looks like the more expensive one there is the way to go. And according to reviews, I know I'll have to beware of color. Here is another alternative I almost went with as a last resort - a box spring "wrap". And as far as I could see, it's available in black, stone, white and ivory. Wasn't exactly what I wanted, but thought it would be better than the actual box spring I'd been looking at for over a year! The reviews seemed good. Just thought I'd throw it out there, but I'm gonna go with Amazon's 9" drop since I spent so much time looking for it!!! https://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Sleep-Plush-StyleWrap-Black-Fabric-Box-Spring-Cover/11552337/product.html...See MoreQuestions about sewing a dust ruffle
Comments (6)Thanks everyone for all the good ideas! Salena, that would work, but I think it could be a bear in the washing machine, or seem to always be sitting crooked on the bed, and you'd need to make different ones for summer and winter bedding. I'm trying to imagine it. Eunice, I didn't know that hook and loop was sold that way. I learn something every day on the GW. :-) I'm trying to imagine an elasticized one. Dust ruffles are lovely, but whoever thought them up should have thought a little longer about their design. Did you attach the velcro to the outside top edge of the box springs -- or just underneat between the box and the mattress? Has the sticky half stayed in place well? Kathi, what a great solution for a waterbed! I had one of those for many years too. The way mine was built reminded me of a giant cradle for adults. They are like big buckets. When I switched back to a regular bed my dogs fell off a couple of times in the middle of the night until they adjusted. I doubt sincerely I could get a fitted sheet over my box springs, but it's a good thought if I get help. I definitely need to make some adjustment. I just can't wrestle with my mattress any more....See MoreKinda OT - anyone have a split mattress that adjusts?
Comments (6)Lizzie, there are two ways to make up a split king mattress: 1) Use two separate twin extra long or twin with very deep pocket fitted sheets and two extra long top sheets or duvets or 2) the separate bottom sheets and one king size top sheet or duvet. With the independently adjustable mattresses, you will have two separate pieces that move independently. The frames can be placed inside a king size bed frame or placed side by side under a headboard attached to a wall. There are a number of companies that make these beds Serta, Temperpedic as well as Sleep Number. It might be possible to use standard king sized sheets if they have enough flexibility with deep corner pockets in the fitted sheet, but it would put a lot of strain on the edges of the sheets with the mattresses being raised to the highest positions independently at the head and/or foot. This bed isn't any harder to make than a twin bed up against a wall. I raise the head or the foot of the bed and put on one end of the sheet, lower it and then do the same at the other end. You could also use a flat sheet instead of a fitted sheet on the bottom, Twin extra long sheet sets are available especially at back to college time but you have to look for the separate bottom and top sheets at other times. If the mattress you select isn't super thick, you can use the deep pocket twin sheets with no problem. Good Luck in your hunt....See MoreOutsidePlaying
