Installations like yours have been done. I'm guessing the main concern is the stability of the fixed panel on the hinge side when the door is open, as half-inch glass is pretty heavy.

If the glass is going to the ceiling, can ceiling clips be used?

Or a glass header over the door, with the header connected to the two fixed panels?

Making the door less wide?

Splitting the 30" wide door into two 15" doors?

Don't ever push an installer outside of their comfort zone, or their safety recommendations for the glass they are working with. Half-inch is pretty robust. Hope you find an aesthetically pleasing, yet functional and economic, solution.

^^And properly hinged into the wall for real support. Not creating a future crash and cut by placing a door in the middle of a 8’ section of wobbly unsupported glass. Improper design here on multiple fronts. A shower that large needs multiple drains, and not be done as more of a shallow swimming pool.

Looks like A very NICE shower. Perhaps not understanding the who said what here. I have had kickback from my glass installer about mounting full height panels into ceilings (3/8 & 1/2) w/o headers. Here we have snow loads and extreme temps and movement. When they say no I dont push. If you have hired a true Glass pro trust in them and think about their long term liability to your install.

Where are the controls? The door should be at the controls, so that you can turn it on and not have to be frozen out by the cold water purge. If the controls are there to the left, then that is the logical location for the door to be hinged. That’s the strong and sturdy location as well. Then the rest is just a very large panel that can be done with clips. You’ll likely need a transom though, to facilitate ventilation. Plus leave the door open for good air flow. It depends on what is located to the right, and if a simple glass screen would be enough What’s the material? Super large format tile?

Is there a showerhead and valve on the right side too?

yes there are vavles on the right also.
our main concern is the safety and durability. our GC has a sub who says its no prob and other people who say you cant do it are wrong. we are open to any suggestions as long as its safe. otherwise we will just go with a header since that seems to be an easy fix, although not the most attractive in terms of looks

Couple questions;

What is the ceiling height?

Is there (and where is it) a diverter to switch water between the 2 showerheads, or will you sometimes have both on at the same time independently (meaning, as an example in which 2gpm fixtures are installed, instead of 2gpm there would be 4gpm coming out?).

Licensed shower door installers are where you should seek answers.

ceilings are 8 feet.
i have asked numerous installers. i have one that says no prob at all. Many others say headers are absolutely needed. another that says useing some special pivot hinge will be fine. another said we can use a transom to attach the two fixed panels above door. another said we can attach the door to a fixed panel that is 22inches or less and make the other fixed panel much bigger. there seems to be no exact consensus

The logical thing for a 2 person shower would seem to be to have two doors, each hinged properly into the walls. Then a central single pane of glass clipped in the middle

Absolutely done all the time. Either do as Creative Tile says or use brackets like or similar to these for the fixed panels. Maybe even use 1/2" for the fixed panels and 3/8" for the door to cut down on the weight.

I would want 2 doors, each hinged at its own walls. Then a panel in the middle. Let’s just say your doors are each 26” wide, that leaves you with a 4’ panel in the middle. You can have the panel go all the way to the ceiling or not, have transoms, or not. Make sure your ventilation is either in the shower or just outside where it can work well.

The panel in the middle could be secured at the ceiling, or you could use the support bar thing that millworkman posted. If you decide to have it go to ceiling, ask how it will be secured up there. Mine is with clips because there’s framing and tile up there, but looks like you have dry wall there. The clip needs something to screw into.

Oh, I’ve also seen pictures where there are 2 panels and the middle is just left open; no door. But I personally like it all closed up like a steam shower with transoms above doors because I like how steamy and quiet it is like that.

It’s hard to see in this photo, but it looks like the side panels go to the ceiling and the door is hinged to one of the panels, with no transom.

I have another question about drilling the shower glass clamps onto the curb. My concern is that drilling the camps into the curb will compromise or penetrate through the water proofing membrane. I realize that many glass companies will inject silicone, but this seems like a big risk.

What are alternatives to drilling a shower glass clamp into the curb? Can the glass be simply siliconed onto the curb?

For your size glass, probably none. You would need to clamps for sure. And definitely clamps of using the door hinged off the glass panel.

Much smaller pcs quite possible with wall clamps. But not with a shower door hinged off the glass at all.

Just to be clear you are the one that said 1 person said yes and 10 said no.to me that says no and honestly a 10’ shower is for a whole family and will never warm up so maybe you need to show a drawing of the shower to make it make sense. As for the actual install you are asking in the wrong place you need to talk to the glass i nstallers and listen to them. I have no helpful info because I dont think what you want will be a good idea.

Consider having a wall of glass blocks. The rest regular glass.

Your tile professional and glass professional should talk you through the options. It’s an unusually large shower. Whatever you decide to do, it could be quite cold. I prefer a warm, steamy shower, so we asked for the glass to go all the way to the ceiling, like a steam shower. We don’t have a steam generator, but it gets nice and warm since it’s all closed up. Maybe doing that in your case will help your shower to get and stay warm.
