Where will I find a drapery rod that's 11 feet wide?
Comments (18)Hi dana g, all I've done so far is take one of the rods out of the box! At first, I thought there was a problem with the rod because it extended only 24". I called the store and the woman I spoke with told me that BOTH ends extend. I felt so silly, but I think this will work in my favor to disguise the slight difference in the diameter of the rod as it is extended. The panels on either side will probably cover the extension, with only the center portion showing. We'll see. This is going to be a long, slow process for me. Tomorrow I hope to remove the existing window treatments and patch the holes left from them. After that, I can hang the poles. Then the panels will need some slight alterations. I thought you were using actual closet rods, but instead Lowes has drapery rods in the larger diameter. And it's nice to have all the options with the finials, rings and brackets. Good luck with your project. If I fail with the Opus rods, I'll be looking at Lowes, too. Isn't amazing how what seems like such a simple project can be so complicated? Comments (11)You may be referring to the thread I started awhile back when I was looking for an 11 foot drapery rod. I just looked for it myself by searching my name and it didn't come up, but I looked thru all the older pages and found it on page 12! I'll link it at the end of this post. I have two thoughts regarding the width of your drapery rod. If you really want to use a rod that wide, I would suggest going the route dana g did and use the wood rods that you can join. Since you have 3 windows I would use a support at each end, as well as at the two points where the center window meets the window to either side, for a total of 4 supports. That way you could join together 3 sections of rods, hiding the 'seam' at each of the 2 supports in the 'middle' of the expanse. My other thought is because of the very large expanse you're working with, it may look fine to use 2 shorter rods at each end of the window. Good luck with your project. Comments (10)shadylady 2u and sallymo, Thanks for your advice on the double rods. So you are saying it will look better to have both the front and back rods be the same finish and style, versus trying to paint the back traverse rod (for the sheers) to match the wall. What if the back traverse rod is the basic metal square style and it is painted to match the wall? I want a large dark stained rod in front for the decorative drapery panels. So would you suggest I also get the same style and color for the sheer rod? I am thinking it should be a thinner version of the front one. Just double checking to make sure I understand! Comments (13)I really think dummy rods are strange looking. Curtains are supposed to cover windows...dummy rods throw out the pretense of that. I’d use a full rod and thick drapes that would look like they could fully cover the window. I remember a designer I worked with once told me things needed to look authentic and make sense. Dummy rods do neither....See MoreCDR Design, LLC
