New kitchen cabinets & island- what are must haves?
Comments (8)I like my ice maker in my freezer. I like spices in a drawer and not right next to my cooking appliance . I like a narrow pullout for oils and vinegars , all drawers for base cabinets for sure. Trash under my sink since I take out trash almost everyday I do not require a huge trash can. I think a wine cooler is a nice addition if you have the space under counter or a full sized one if you have the wall space. I do not feel it is important to have baking sheets in a pullout , I store mine in the cabinet above my double wall ovens they are stacked but in 3 stacks of different sizes. It works for me. If possible true pullout pantries on the same wall as your fridge and maybe even wall ovens . A large single bowl stainless sink . As for islands we need a floor plan to advise there. IMO not every kitchen needs an island and more to point not always the best choice . IMO get a true kitchen designer and not a cabinet maker or salesperson. If you post your plan here you will gets lots of feedback and its free. But you need to post a to scale floor plan , all windows and doorways marked and all measurements clearly marked . Use graph paper it makes to scale easier to do and make sure the drawing can be enlarged....See MoreYes or no to kitchen island prep sink? New kitchen layout help please
Comments (4)Unfortunately your original layout is more functional than the proposed. How about putting the table in the former kitchen space? Then I’d make a built in hutch in that area bumped into the powder room. Can you move the door to the sunroom to the mudroom? Then you can get some decent wall space in the former dining room for a new kitchen....See MoreStain color for new kitchen island--Ideas please!
Comments (11)to my eye: you have enough going on with 2 different counters and busy b/s... i would pick the darkest color in your flooring and match that the best you can to your island. continuity would be a plus here. totally agree with you, you can add color with all your other elements. best part, if blue falls out of favor with you down the road, no worries about the island....See MoreNew kitchen island light idea help
Comments (11)Sometimes the way the room is arranged suggests that pendants aren't necessary or contra-indicated. I don't have pendants over my island, just two recessed lights and I don't have any desire to add pendants when I remodel. There is plenty of light in the room. IMO, you would be better off putting a chandelier over the dining table and not having pendants in the kitchen. Just rearrange and add to your recessed lights to cover the area more evenly. It looks like six should do it. Is there an extra one in the middle row because of where the island used to be? When you install LVP, make sure you don't make it impossible to get a dishwasher in and out of the spot for it since the level of the floor is going to be raised. The previous owners of our house did that, except they trapped it, and now we can't pull it out to service it....See Moredesign home
