Curb appeal update: what would you do? HELP!
Comments (13)No, what will tie it all together needs to be the color. And then a bit more landscaping. Here, I fixed the rest of the shutters and picked a color that was taken from your bricks and a bit farther from the roof. The white trim is unifying too. I personally would find a lighter color for the front door so that it wasn't lost in its cave, but you may be attached to the wood look. Just some thoughts....See MoreHow would you improve the Curb Appeal of this house??
Comments (8)It sounds like illusion of a double door or drawing the eye in a different direction may be the answer. Your house is a farmhouse style so one of those leaning panels that are selling in stores that say ”welcome“or ‘family‘ on them just might give you the look you want. You could build one that would compliment your door in size and style. A panel painted to match the door color that could hold a flat back basket for flowers or a vine. The center post draws the eye and highlights what you don’t like. You could consider adding ”visual weight” to the one side of the porch by adding a picket railing. It would draw the eye to one side verses the center. The other suggestion would be (if possible) realigning/resizing the porch posts and to remove that center post. These are all relatively quick no/low construction options. They might buy you some time until you decide what you really want to do. Just a thought....See Morehow would you curb appeal?
Comments (5)Paint the stucco, garage door, window frames, and trim the same color as the stacked stone on the front elevation. Remove the bay window/install a flat window or sky light and replace all of the missing roof shingles. Remove the low property boundary wall and install foundation landscaping with drought tolerant native shrubs/plants....See MoreHow would you improve the curb appeal of this home?
Comments (10)I looked at the other thread. There's a very important piece that I think everyone there missed, and greatly affects any advice. The 2nd story roof overhang extends out to the garage roof, if not a little past it even. Apparently, I would guess there were columns once holding this roof up (hopefully aesthetically only, and not structurally) that were removed. If so, I would then question what rearrangement was done on the inside where there are no windows to the left of the front door, and only 1 small window upstairs under this overhang. What that means is the advice of extending the garage roof over for a porch would be a terrible idea. Even a pergola as suggested is strange under that long overhang when it doesn't match any of the other vocabulary of the house. Along the same thought though a balcony might work, with columns, making sense of the overhang. So to answer the question of what to do up to $10K, IMO it might be best to stick to just some planters, furniture, or small things, and live there a while to understand the layout and what was done, all while saving more money. Maybe then re-approach ideas for the face of the house with some more/larger windows, a good layout of interior spaces, or the balcony idea, and maybe something might turn out to be a huge benefit to aesthetics, your lifestyle, and your ROI....See MoreSteveworks LLC
