Adding interest: bead board or shiplap ceiling?

Hi Everyone, a couple years ago I moved into a lovely rectangular Colonial house. The interior is plenty spacious but has no architectural interest (wainscoting, built ins, decorative trim, etc) the downstairs ceilings are 8’ and upstairs 7’. Downstairs has a very open floor plan. Upstairs has a long hall which each of the bedrooms come off. I am thinking of adding bead-board to the ceiling and shiplap to the walls in the hallway to give it some visual interest. Has anyone done this to their hallway or a room with low ceiling? If so would you recommend it? I am also debating should I do beadboard or shiplap on the ceiling? Any input is welcome! Thanks!
