New RH large library media system dwarfs my 52' TV!
Comments (11)natal - that's a beautiful built-in and just what I had in mind but didn't want to spend the $$ since I'm hoping we move out of state in 5 or so years. I would have also done the built-in in white to brighten up my living area because we have a lot of tan and brown, although I think the monotone look is growing on me. We're getting a light carpet inlay so that will offer some contrast. I'm definitely saving a picture of cooking's built-in for our someday "forever house" though. luckajoy - bellaflora told me about the outlet and mentioned they had some salvaged wood pieces - thanks, bella! I just happened to call on Friday to see if they had one of the coffee tables and they mentioned the only pieces they had were the two large media cabinets. It was a strange cooincidence because just that morning I had emailed a photo of it to my DH at work and he agreed that we should get that one. I just redid the math and I actually got 50% off. There were just a few small pieces of wood that need to be reglued and it looks great. I still want the Dutch industrial coffee table but there's a booth at my local swapmeet that apparently makes a similar table for half the price. I'm going to take a look once we have the carpet installed....See MoreHelp with very large windows in my new sewing room...
Comments (9)Thanks, everyone!! You guys are thinking along the same lines as I am. I have thought about the shades (of any variety, and making them), but wondered about the width of the windows?? I may wait until we move in to decide for sure?? The windows are facing more north/east and won't get a lot of hot sun and I won't need too much for privacy (yet). I don't like looking at the "black holes" that night time windows create. I really like the roman shade or top down, bottom up shade idea for the living room/dining room. I may do some sheers for the wedding and then use them elsewhere? They aren't very expensive, so I haven't lost much if I don't like them. We plan on using the sewing room as the "dance floor" for the wedding, so some window treatment would be nice for that (it's an evening wedding, so maybe a wall of lights, too??)...See MoreRETIREMENT HOME: 80s Golden Oak, No Wall Space, Large T.V. -- HELP!
Comments (31)I read your post and looked at your pictures. My thought was: "What a comfortable home - I could move right in!" So what really bugs you about it? I agree with removing the clock. You could mount the tv on the wall, (hiding the cords?) but is it really worth it? Same with bar stools. I would use them, but if you're sure you never would, why buy them? If you decide to get 2 anyway, choose a style that fits neatly under the island overhang - perhaps a "saddle" style? Wall art? Your wonderful windows are wall art! And... you have a lovely glass case for displaying art objects that you can change out on your whim. Golden oak furniture. I live in a house filled with golden oak furniture my parents accumulated during the 1980's. And golden oak kitchen cabinets they chose when they built a house in 1991. It wasn't until I started reading Gardenweb forums in 2010, I learned that golden oak was "out" and "orange-y". Up till then, I simply thought of all these pieces as "wood". And wood that went well with other (inherited) pieces in the house that date back to the 1920's- 1940's. Trendy or not - it works in MY house. If you truly dislike golden oak, why not sell it and buy what you would like used? Might be more cost effective than buying paint, or hiring someone to professionally paint your furniture. Especially if you might not be pleased with the finished results. Again, I suggest you ask yourself...what REALLY bugs you about your home?...See MoreOttoman too large for space?
Comments (4)Yeah it certainly is cozy and comfy and really nice to put feet up and watch tv. I think I just really wanted to have the "right design" but my apartment layout (1800s Victorian) didn't match with my functional needs (a 6'4" room mate who enjoys high def movies and wants to be comfy). Design in a Victorian is hard they didn't have TVs or tall people back then haha....See MoreRelated Professionals
