large island - cathedral ceiling - lighting ideas
Comments (0)Iam building a home on coast with large island with cathedral ceiling. I like traditional style and want to keep simple as view is focal point. Any suggestions for lighting over island?...See MoreKitchen Island Pendants...advice/ideas for foyer lighting
Comments (11)"...Not everything needs to be matchy-matchy..." No, of course not. And if folks will read my comments, I didn't suggest "matching". What I suggested was to get light fixtures with "similar" characteristics--not matching. The OP's suggested foyer fixture has "bling" sides and an opaque base. The exterior form is hard edged. Of course, everyone is free to choose whatever light fixtures they please. But the OP asked if the two fixtures "coordinate". The answer is no. They contrast, not coordinate. Just my mileage since the OP asked. YMMV! :-)...See MoreLarge Island Lighting ideas
Comments (5)I'm glad you asked! We have a light sizing guide that details some guidelines for island lighting. To find a good maximum size for pendants, take that 3 1/2 foot width (42") and subtract 12. That 30" measurement is the ideal max size for pendants. We also recommend spacing pendants 2 feet apart over the island. You could potentially do two larger-size pendants or three not-as-large pendants since your island is 10 feet long. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like some item suggestions!...See MoreIdeas for lighting over sink and island
Comments (16)Not to be contrarian, but I personally like the look of pendants in front of a window. I'd do a single pendant that is visible from the outside. I did this in front of two windows in my kitchen, with counter prep space in front of each window, and when I walk my dog in the wee hours of the morning I LOVE seeing the warm glow of those pendants as I return home. Also note that I did a matching, but shorter, pendant over my kitchen table (in the foreground but outside the view of this photo). Because sinks are a work area, I'd recommend an enclosed or downward-directed fixture there....See MoreKatherine
