Kitchen tile and backsplash choice help needed
Comments (9)Where are you terminating the kitchen floor, at the edge of the cupboards or dining room? I'm a huge hardwood in the kitchen fan (I've had it in 2 kitchens over 10 years)however I'm more nervous putting a STAINED dark hardwood in the kitchen as it is a bit less forgiving than natural. If you ever have a pipe leak with a natural colored hardwood, you can spot-fix. Much trickier with stained hardwood. How is that riding the fence between your husband and yourself? LOL! If you go with tile, I really would go quite a bit lighter than the hardwood. If you have your heart set on a darker floor in the kitchen, you may want to consider a mid-tone slate (depending how it would look with your granite) Just remember, dark tile will show pet hair, crumbs and wiped up spills more than mid or light tones. Good Luck!...See MoreNeed Help With Color Choice for Kitchen and Keeping Rooms
Comments (6)Before our recent remodel my house interior was Dover White, flat finish on walls and Dover White wood trim in semigloss. My downstairs floor plan is mostly open and I was happy with the combination. Dover White is a shade that will change throughout the day's light and it played well with all the colors in my furnishings. And it never looked too harsh, to me, during cold winter months, as some whites can. We replaced our natural maple stained cabinets with white (a creamy white cabinet manufacturer calls Buttercream) and we have light stone counters. I wanted a subtle color on my walls as contrast to all the white. We Chose BM Carrington Beige and I just love how it makes all my white trim and our mantel pop. It is a chameleon shade that reads greenish, at times. Other times it's warm with a subtle golden glow. The name "beige" IMO, is not very representative of this color. You may want to check it out in your search....See MoreNeed help with flooring choice
Comments (3)Thank you. I was thinking of using the same wood plank in the bathroom but I am not sure about the orientation in the bathroom. If I run it the same as the rest of the house it will be running horizontal in the bathroom and everything I have seen has wood look flooring in a bathroom running vertically....See MoreNeed some serious help with my kitchen counter choice!
Comments (2)Use one surface color/material for all the countertops since you have different colored cabinets. Why are you raising the seating area? I would extend the top at the same level as the island so you can use regular chairs or stools rather than bar height. It will open up the look of the kitchen. I would use the same countertop surface on that as well. Also, do not use the 4" backsplash. Tile the walls from countertop to the bottom of the top cabinets, and the whole area above the stove. It will look much less choppy, and is not a big expense. Or go lower at table height....See MoreRelated Professionals
