I don't exactly understand a hearth room...no disrespect & I'm not trying to sound "crazy." I thought a hearth room was like a little extension of the kitchen to gather before/during/after meals. It seems that Hearth rooms are actually becoming larger & used like a family room and usually there is another more formal living room used for guest, formal times. Explain this to me, I love exploring plans and how people live in their floor plans/homes. I had thought so many people were getting away from a great room/family room and that of an extra, formal living room. It seems the hearth room might be replacing the family room and it is popular again to have a formal living room that is used less often? Again, not putting a hearth room down, just trying to see how we live!

These are the kinds of things I would think about: --- Whether to do what you show as the slider wall, or do three linked panels where only one opens instead of the window + door. This gives the tall glass without having to allow room for both door swings. Other patterns may also work better. --- Whether it would look better to have the dining room opening also arched, but perhaps a little smaller than drawn. Would repeat a little of the new style in the older part of this house. If it didn't look ok in the drawings, then I'd consider whether I was trying to "thrown in" an arch at the new family room even tho it didn't match the house. --- Whether I needed those ovens to be right there or if they could be moved to the wall with the dining room opening. A lot of people use their ovens infrequently as compared to say the cooktop. It would provide breathing room at the cooktop as well as not feeling closed in by the wall corner and the ovens. --- List and weight the activities I wanted to happen in the former family room and think about how those would take place. I guess a clearer way to say this is to plan your needs and arrange your furniture first rather than just stick stuff in. --- instead of long skinny room I didn't know how to arrange, I wonder if it would work to add a wall between the entry space and the main room. Could get some storage, perhaps bulk-item pantry area and a cozier hearth room. --- I would also consider reversing the door and window on the main entry and make the new cabinets a bank next to the fireplace. The cabinet doors in front of the closet could open to a deeper version of your existing closet. --- It's difficult to tell clearances on an unmeasured drawing, but it's impossible on a 3d drawing. I wonder if your clearances around the island are enough for you? hth!

I was surprised to see your name attached to a layout post! Another kitchen to plan...Fun! Even for my family, this plan is BIG. Lots of walking. It's really nice, but I'm not sure I'd want it this spread out. But I love it, too. As you can tell, I'm waffling. ;-) I'm not comfortable with the stove location, as it seems to be somewhat of a walk-through area and the island isn't oriented well to be prep space. If the stove were on the back wall behind the island, it would be great in relation to the island and prep work area. Your aisles are too wide for me! With the stove behind the island, I'd snug them closer together, for easy prep-and-turn. The widest aisles in my kitchen are 4 ft, and I wouldn't want them wider, especially where I work on both surfaces to each side at once. Maybe this is all too specific for where you are in the process right now. Will your local building code/regulations allow this many windows? Ours wouldn't. Have you thought about things like where groceries will come in, etc?

If you want to exactly match your plan and make the house the way you want, then you should work closely not only with the workers and decorators but also with the furniture maker directly. Or find a good store selling furniture. By the way, you should also read a lot of reviews about the choice of furniture and its specificity.
