looking for advice living room
Comments (15)It seems like he has lots of options on what could possibly be added to the space. You could easily add an extra chair by the window, a small side table, some window treatments, a console under the TV, a round coffee table or ottoman, some artwork, and perhaps some side tables. Here are just a few visuals to help you with your dilemma....See MoreRedecorating my "formal" lr and am looking for advice
Comments (49)@ elcieg Any green can be in any room. It may appear more blue in one room or less blue, more green or yellow in another room, but that doesn't mean that it isn't working in a specific lighting. Of course it isn't working. How can you choose green, have it show yellow and say the green is working? I still don't understand your point. I didn't say it would be yellow or blue the green (blue+yellow) will be more blue or more green depending on the light. If you go outside and look at a tree, walk around the whole tree, does the east facing side become yellow and the north facing side become blue or is the whole tree green? A single color in any room will have light coming from different sources and will appear different on every wall and will look different as the seasons change and will appear different on a cloudy day vs a bright sunny day. Here is a single room that is painted one color, but the color changes from one side of the room to the other and is bright where the sun shines through the windows. No matter what color they paint these walls it is going to look different on one side vs the other. It will look different in the evening than the morning. The only color that will be the same in all lighting conditions is matte black (absorbs all wavelengths) How do you choose a color for the exterior of your home? Each side is going to get lighting from a different direction? Is it a really good idea to test your paint color on all 4 sides of your home and look at it in the morning, afternoon and evening so you are sure you like the color and don't need to tweak it a bit? Absolutely. You are never going to get a color that doesn't look a bit different at different times of the day on each side of your house. The other thing to remember is as the lighting impacts one color it also impacts the surrounding colors, so the entire palette goes a bit cooler in north light and a bit warmer in southern light. As long as the colors look good together (Don't clash) they will continue to look good together (not clash) if all the colors are cooled or warmed. If you notice on the Benjamin Moore website they show you paint colors in different lighting, but the colors that they recommend as complementary don't change. Here is an example created from the BM Website using the same color combination shown in 4 different lighting conditions. The two colors work together no matter how the lighting is adjusted because both colors are impacted by the same lighting condition. You can't just say Pale Avocado doesn't work in a room because the lighting is from the north or south, it can work in any room but may look different in one room than another room. There is nothing in the OPs color palette that makes it unsuitable for any room with lighting from any direction and all of the colors work well together....See MoreLooking for advice on window treatments
Comments (3)Congratulations! Lovely. I would do an inside mount blind top down bottom up for privacy and light control. Blinds.com has always been my choice for a wide range of styles and options. they often have great sales. easy to DIY. then layer with drapery panels where you need/want additional decor. I like continuity throughout the home, complimentary, but different colors and styles. Not all rooms need the same thing, as you say TV and bedroom for lined shades, others privacy and/or light control....See Morelooking for advice on achieving 1930’s vibe
Comments (20)I understand that fixing up a home from scratch for the first time can be overwhelming you should take it slow and make sure you have the budget for everything, if the floors are not looking so good I would put a hold on that for now and save up it's better than finding someone to fix it up and making an even bigger mess so my suggestion is that you wait a bit. I love the blue in the kitchen and I would also paint the upper elements the same color, the knobs you choose also look really nice with the blue you did a really good job there. In case you are scared of making a mistake with the walls, and you wouldn't use any dramatic colors like the blue in the kitchen I would suggest a warm toned white, beige something that will warm up the space I think it's too white now and that will definitely help. I'm trying to see what kind of a carpet it is, how thick it is but I'm not sure from the picture. You can look into layering rugs over carpets there are a lot of websites that offer suggestions about layering thickness, colors, materials etc. and yes don't be scared to go big with the rug. I would also advise you to spend a bit more time on pinterest or a similar website and find more inspiration, make a moodboard of everything you love it will help you a lot since getting a piece by piece without an actual idea can cost you a lot of money and time and you will end up with a lot of things that just don't go well with each other....See MoreUser
