Help: quartz counter tops not fitted correctly?

Hi, I'm looking for some advice about a job that I've had done. I have had a kitchen island built, topped with 2cm quartz. Under the quartz is 3/4" plywood.

The GC says that the counter guy hasn't cut the plywood correctly to fit the hardware (faucets etc). Counter guy says GC should just cut the plywood & this is perfectly normal. GC says he's not happy with cutting up towards the quartz top and he discussed the requirements with the counter guy and just normally the counter guy should cut out the ply to leave space for the hardware.

To me it looks wrong, but I'm looking for opinions from people who know more than me.

If the counter guy did the plywood and top, he has the obligation to coordinate the holes between the two. Were I the GC, he'd get his butt out and remove the plywood in the way at no charge, or that'd be the last time he worked one of my jobs.

If the plywood holds up the sink, that sucks. Plywood cannot push a sink against the stone bottom as a strap method can. Cut it all away and strap the sink please.

Our fabricators cut our plywood for what was needed to match countertop we just put it on top of the cabinets

GC is being a big baby. Cutting ply is easy once the stone holes are done. Tweaking the ply cuts isn’t a big deal.

Sorry, we haven't decided on a new countertop & backsplash. I very much think that Impeccable, or very similar Silestone Ehtereal Glow, would go great in our kitchen with the light wood grain cabinets. Burt my wife then disagreed since she wants all grey or silver veining as opposed to the grey and beige veins. So, we haven't done anything yet.

for the handles, may I suggest something to pick up on the hues in the flooring? A little more copper toned. you have light cabs, light floors. I think throwing in a dark ORB w/o actual copper highlights would be too much of a contrast. IMO. cypress park Sandra, I like the porcelain one better than the other one. Does the backsplash have to be done immediately? If the tones in the porcelain tile you picked clash w/the ivory tones in the counter, it could be a problem. However, I did find some copper toned ones that should be avail. these are porcelain/SS, and treated so as not to stain or tarnish. I LOVE these for your kitchen. timeless and gorgeous. They are probably not super cheap, but it would be worth it for me. http://www.miusartmosaics.com/arabesque-lantern-beacon-copper-tile-in these would also work. the site is here: maybe they have them in stock.http://www.westsidetile.com/arabesque-tiles/ i like this one too. notice the copper faucet. beautiful w/the glass mosaic. if you got the cream countertop, this would look amazing w/your floors. this last one is a copper colored slate/quartzite.

It looks like marble, but more than likely it is quartzite (similar to marble.) Especially since it is stored outside. Quartz is not good out in the elements. Be careful if you are choosing it for your kitchen. Quartzite and marble will scratch and etch. Unless you are not much of a cook and the kitchen is more ornamental, I would choose quartz or granite.

@Joseph Corlett, LLC interesting about the sink install. I don't think there's a strap, which shows (again) my lack of experience with this.

We have a tricky situation as the counter installer & the cabinet maker have been engaged separately from our GC - both are recommendations from our designer. I thing that the cabinet maker's on-site carpenter fitted the the ply for the counter and put the sink in place. The cabinet crew were gone when the counter guy was here.

If I were doing this again (which I'm not going to do) I'd make sure I had much better understanding of who was responsible for what.

@mackdolan the GC has agreed to adjust the holes. Maybe he's a prima donna & wants me to thank him for going above and beyond? Who knows?! Anyway, good to know it shouldn't be a big deal.

@Sammy yeah, exactly what you've said. The pic showing under the basin shows the shelf that holds the basin up. I'm presuming @Joseph Corlett, LLC is saying that the shelf isn't the right way to hold up the sink. The sink is 36" by 18.5", dual-basin, farmhouse, ceramic - so fairly heavy. I'm just doing some googling about how to install/support a sink like that. Probably should have asked before it got installed, right? ;)

I'd pull the shelf and install a Pete's Sink Mount Kit. It's adjustable; shelves aren't.
