kitchen in $17,000/mo rental
Comments (6)The penthouse had the same kitchen, with a completely unrelated marble waterfall island in front of it. Horrendous. But it rented for $40K a month. You read that right. I don't think it has anything to do with not cooking. And these residences are not inside the hotel proper, so they get valet and concierge services but I'm not sure about room service. The kitchens are crap because they still fetch a high price with a crap kitchen. There's no need to do more. The address and the view are enough to move them. Also, I think they are also on the market for sale, and the expectation is that most buyers will rip them out anyway. The kitchens were put in to get a COO....See MoreNeed kitchen design help - can't take ugly kitchen anymore
Comments (18)Why are you replacing with triple sliding with double (not single)? I am you have thought through this but.... What if you replaced it with standard single door with large glass area (since you have decided to bite the bullet and replace door and spend the money).... I think this will be fine since you have access to the "deck" from the sliding door in the living room. So you still have double access to the deck. Sliding double door versus single door has the exact same access width. The only difference is the amount of light coming in. I think you have enough light that you can do this. I would not do any uppers between the frig and sink to open up the room a little. You could move the frig to that wall, so you have frig, sink, then range on the L going from left to right. This will give you more landing around the stove. I think you will still have enough room for a table in the eating area. Visually, if you are running the cabinets to the ceiling, you need trim that is as wide if not slightly wider than the stiles of the cabinets. Even if the crown is simple in detail, you still need a little more "weight" to balance the cabinets than what is drawn. If you want more modern clean line look (which would not look good with your 6 panel doors), then you can use slab or very plain doors with minimal trim....See MoreNew cabinet doors for rental kitchen..cheap suggestions?
Comments (4)I am too lazy to properly sand between coats and paint. I'd probably have brush marks or roll marks or something that makes it look bad. I think a thermofoil will be a little more durable and washable than my attempt at paint. I suppose I could try it instead of the gel stain, even try over top of the stain it if gel stain looks crappy. The gel stain only needs a light initial sand and none between coats. I do have to sand off the layer of grease/nicotine that my tsp scrub didn't take off of the arches in the panels. I really just want to go buy cans of spray paint and give that a go, but I know it's probably a bad idea. Can I spray paint for primer?...See MoreContinuation of small rental kitchen: Induction in a rental?
Comments (15)Nosoccermom, How could do you think renters would mess up an induction cooktop? Even when you don’t clean it, it stays clean. Items don’t burn into the surface. It is actually an easier to use and clean unit than a gas or electric range. The one risk that I experienced when I moved to induction was for the first week, I burned everything in sight. Who knew how much power a 3700watt burner on full blast really was when you don’t feel the heat from the surface. Induction does introduce some behaviors that spoil you for other things though, like putting a cotton towel next to a pot while cooking, or putting wooden utensils on the cooktop surface while cooking. These are things you should not do when using the gas burners....See Morejust_terrilynn
