Chimney Liner Replacement

Hi There!

I am looking to install a wood stove in my living room where there is currently a bricked up fireplace. There is access to the chimney hole (for lack of a better word on my part) but the installation guy who came to quote it said that the 6" liner is damaged and that he isn't sure how to remove it. He said our options would be to either buy a pellet stove and install a 5 1/2" liner inside the damged 6" or, build a new stove pipe somewhere else in our house. We already have a wood stove that we would like to use so the pellet stove isn't really an option we are keen on. Surely, there has to be some way to remove the damaged liner? Anyone have any experience with this issue? Thank you so much!
