Kitchen island pendant lights
Hi, we are building a house and have to make a decision on our kitchen lights. Don't have an exact photo of our kitchen layout but this is a (Photoshopped) kitchen from a slightly different model by our builder (minor differences in fridge placement, more corner counter, etc.). We will have Cashmere Carrara quartz countertops (shown) with a black island and white cabinets elsewhere.
Have been considering lights that won't be too much of the focal point of the kitchen. However, they're near black (b/c we had picked a black--technically oil rubbed bronze--dining room chandelier we liked--it's an open floorplan) and wonder if they are too stark. Have again attached some Photoshopped examples.
Would love to hear people's opinions as been really struggling with this one!

Comments (9)Very pretty! But, it may cast a 'spider web' light show on your white ceiling. As for height, the best advice I got on here a few years ago was when I was torn about what size, length pendants to go over my peninsula. The advice was: blow up balloons to the diameter you are considering for your pendants. Comments (7)I'd go with smaller to med 2 lights 10" or if you are doing a lantern as they have little visual obstruction and you can get a way with a bit larger light. A single at only 11" will be terribly dwarfed on an island just shy of 7 feet. You can do the balloon on a string test and push pin them to the ceiling over the island: two balloons blown up to 10" so you can better visualize if you think you need to go smaller or larger a little you can then try it again. Comments (3)I'm not an expert, just enjoy home decor and design. Your kitchen is beautiful. I have a similar cabinet color scheme, stainless appliances, bronze hardware. I choose bronze hardware and pendants because that's what I'm drawn too. I like the warmth of bronze. I read all the time about mixing metals. I'd suggest keeping the same style though. Comments (1)We like to put one (or more) recessed lights around the island if it includes a work surface (sink or cooktop). The recessed light should be switched separately from the pendants so that it can be turned off when not needed....See More
