Finished kitchen! White cabinets, black countertop, walnut floor
Comments (39)I do not know how the oil rubbed bronze finish will be affected. Our has the dark brown patina finish as you can see but the outside of the sink will probably never change in color because no water or other juices touch it. The inside of our sink can get black rings if we leave dishes or pots and pans in it overnight where it is wet or if there were food juices in the sink. But, that goes away after 2-3 days. We love the sink and it is soooo easy to keep clean. Basically rinse it out or put dish soap in it. You can also basically 'seal' the sink with wax...that would also limit the 'patina-ing' of your sink. Good luck and if you have any questions, let me know. And for louisianaPurchase--the antiqued countertop is very easy to keep clean. Fingerprints don't show up anywhere near as much as I thought. In fact, hardly at all unless someone has very greasy fingers. It is just a quick wipedown...the antiqued quality has probably made all the difference with that....See Morewhat to do with truffle oil and walnut oil
Comments (26)I had some fantastic potatoes sauteed in walnut oil and garlic the last time I was in Paris. Easy to replicate - Here is the recipe from Patricia Wells' Bistro Cooking: Ingredients 1/4 cup walnut oil (60 ml) or 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 2 lbs firm smooth-skinned small potatoes ( 1 kg) 1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg salt & freshly ground black pepper 4 garlic cloves, finely minced 1 bunch parsley, minced 1 bunch chives, minced Directions Peel (or, if the skin is thin, leave the peel on) and thinly slice potatoes. Wrap in a thick towel to absorb any liquid. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking. Add the potatoes and saut, shaking the pan from time to time until the potatoes are thoroughly cooked and browned on both sides, about 20 minutes. Season with nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste as the potatoes are being tossed. To serve, sprinkle on the garlic, parsley, and chives, and toss to blend. Trust me - these potatoes are GOOD!...See MoreNeed help deciding on penetrating oil or satin for table top.
Comments (2)I did two tables recently, one with Behlen Rockhard Table Top Finish and one with Minwax polyurethane. The Rockhard took a while to dry thoroughly but it's so tough now it makes the Minwax seem delicate by comparison. The Rockhard is a phenolic (think Bakelite). For the chairs--and possibly the table skirt and legs--consider a polyurethane-based gel topcoat (e.g., from General Finishes). Doesn't run. Tough enough for these surfaces and much, much easier to control on vertical surfaces than brushing varnish....See MoreBest way to finish butcher block counters? Waterlox, poly, tung?
Comments (2)Little late to the rodeo here, and I guess you got the butcher block finished already. When I installed kitchens, we used a product called "Good Stuff" that Bally block recommended . It was kinda an oil based paste that you rubbed in then buffed off. Several coats provided a nice matte finish. Cant attest for how long the finish lasts, but I've never got a call back to re apply....See MoreAboutToGetDusty
