Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

We are using a BM Swiss Coffee on both trim and walls throughout most of our home but was thinking of adding a slight contrast in the kitchen as all cabinets will be Swiss Coffee. The room has very little natural light. Would love some suggestions on subtle variations on the white theme. Thanks. Kitchen floors will be a medium tone wood.

Hi Mary,

I suggest taking a look at BM's web page for Swiss Coffee. They give alternative shade colors and colors that go well with what you have selected. It's a great way to get a few more color options that you can then get samples of!

If you go to their page, click onto Swiss coffee and underneath the strip of color you will see "goes with," "similar," and "shades." Good luck!

Hi island. Our banquette was built (several years ago) by the same guy who did our cabinets. There is no back on it ... just loose pillows, which we sort of toss around depending on how many people are actually sitting on it. It does have storage. There are sliding doors on the long front of it (this is not easy storage to access but it's for the cookbooks I pull out once a year, etc.) and a "morgue" drawer that comes out from the end (where we keep all the dog leashes, collars, etc. Super handy storage!). I will take some measurements tonight or tomorrow for you, but I recall that the seat is about 19" tall after the cushion is on. I made the cushion extra thick, 4 inches, and raised it up a little because I prefer to sit a little higher at a table. The chairs came with the house and I sort of painted them on a whim. I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint, which was OK, although I'm not sure it was any better than any other kind of paint, other than not having to prime them first. They do seem to be wearing well though. Hope that helps for now. More to follow.

Sure, diymom79. Finish the hearsay... If they slap paint on them without proper preparation. It's a no brainer. You get what you put into them. This topic has also been beaten to death and is actually ongoing (again) in another current thread. I've got both painted and unpainted and neither is better than the other, based upon my usage and the quality of 1) my cabinets and 2) my painted jobs.

Renovation of our kitchen going on ... Opted with acrylic high gloss cabinets and plywood boxes, Quartz countertops... I was advised to use acrylic flat doors on top cabinets and pvc on down cabinets as pvc can take better abuse ... google about it... and also don’t use wet cloths when wiping down the acrylic flat doors apparently not good for them.. according to google...

Pay money to an electrician first, for better lighting. Then find a pro that uses an Italian 2K coating and be prepared to spend 7-9K for them to refinish the cabinets. Or, join the Kitchen Cabinets Painting Experts group on FB for all of the instructions to DIY. It’ll take a month of effort, and about $500-1K in equipment if you want it as good as the tough factory finish that exists, that the pros could replicate.
