Maybe I'm crazy, but do you think a nautical wallpaper border could be mounted above the mirror to cover the unpainted part? You could run it all the way around the room, and then trim it top and bottom with a painted piece of half-round molding to really make it look deliberate. Then mount a new light fixture in place of the hollywood bar (you're right -- that absolutely has to go) and make sure you position the border so the light makes sense on the pattern (am I getting too technical here?) I mounted a huge border in my son's bedroom so that the bottom edge lined up with the bottom of the window moldings and ran it all the way around the room. My wall were a similar blue, with alternating light blue stripes. The half-round was painted a rich cranberry red and I coordinated with a box pleated red valance with tiny blue stripes. It looked really sharp. I like the vanity as is. Good luck!!

Won't make it more modern per se, it's not a modern style bathroom- but will make it more harmonious, and you might love it much more than you do now To me, a color of the vanity and mirrors is too red next to more yellowish tile. So if you can afford to spend time/money/energy-yes I'd look into changing vanity's color. That's my personal pet peeve though..very reddish wood tones next to yellowish tiles. Not sure how much bothers others. (as an easier fix-a rug that incorporates both colors in its pattern.) Different wall color (yes I also tend to think-something like cream or ivory..) ..a different shade-bamboo? grass woven? in short something more streamlined but still going-with-everything. Art you love.. A plant if enough light. Plants always make everything more alive.For obvious reasons)) Containers/trays you love.. It's a nice bathroom..seems functional and livable enough

It’s definitely all in the eye of the beholder 😊 - everyone has different opinions. I don’t use any particular brand. I do like Cree a lot, and many people like Feit. They both tend to have a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 90 or higher. CRI is a measure of how accurately the light will make the colors in your home appear. Whereas Kelvin is the color of the light emitted by the bulb. Ideally you want the Kelvin you prefer, with a CRI of 90 if you can find it, or 80 if you can’t. No lower than 80. Most brands will be 80. Not all manufacturers list their CRI in their specifications though. With regard to the kelvin of recessed lights - you can buy recessed bulbs now that have adjustable kelvin, so you can experiment with different levels and see what you like. The ones I’ve seen have an option of 3000, 4000, or 5000k.

my go to bathroom paint color is Behr Day Spa... it's a white with a hint of blue. It goes with anything, beige, white, anything. It would be a quick refresh with your existing tub/shower & floor. Are you replacing the vanity? I'd choose a simple white, but anything would work. I think replacing the outlet covers & switchplate, light fixture would be a fast fix and make you feel like you did an update without breaking the bank.
