Comments (18)thanks again to all who had input. As far as the built ins I'm still unsure about what to change other than centering them along the wall and perhaps the height to align with windows/doors/room openings. (although I thought I read on this forum that windows and doors do not have to be aligned in height) After looking at many many houzz photos there is not much difference in what I'm seeing there compared to what's in my photos. TV opening on one side, open shelving of the same size on the other side. TV watching. Yes, I think at times the glare may be an issue, at certain times of year. Mainly the tv isn't on during the day except on weekends, and then most of our tv watching would be in the basement family room. So for the most part I think it won't be an issue. Obviously we plan to put some kind of blinds/shades on at least the lower windows. Fading.....well, there's only so much I can worry about in my life and faded fabrics isn't on the list. We live a casual lifestyle with casual furniture that the kids will likely damage way more than the sunshine. I would still say that I'm still most concerned about acoustics. We generally wanted area rugs rather than carpet, mainly again because of my special needs child and his constant messes and the easy cleanup that hardwood provides....See MoreWhat color should I paint the cathedral ceiling (pics)?
Comments (18)Our hearth room has a similar cathedral ceiling with massive beams, and it gets lots of light thanks to a wall of east facing windows plus south facing french doors. Both the walls and ceiling are painted Manchester Tan. It's actually the one room in our home where I really like HC-91, probably because of the light. Elsewhere, it seems a bit blah. No offense meant to anyone who loves HC-91, it's just that our previous homes were filled with lots of color and this was a huge change. I expected to repaint the entire house, eventually, and if I ever do the hearth room won't be changing....See MoreUrgent Help w/BM's Wickham Gray in my sunny cathedral ceiling Great Rm
Comments (1)I live twenty feet from a lake with a sunny south and west exposure. My great room consists mainly of glass. It also has 18 foot cathedral ceilings. Last week I had my cathedral ceiling planked and my eighteen foot fireplace wall shiplapped. Both the ceiling planks and fireplace shiplap will be painted in BM's White Dove in two days. i have a white sectional and most of my accessories are in a seafoam color range. I am wanting this room to be soft and serene and open. I love white walls but with my white shiplap and planking I am stepping out of my comfort zone and wanting to do a light gray. I have tried a number of BM paint samples on my walls and am leaning towards BM's Wickham Gray. I do agree that it leans towards the blue side. I also tried BM Alaskan Husky which was pretty but very blue/green and Gray Owl which seemed muddy. My painter is coming in TWO days to paint and now I'm getting worried that Wickham may not be the right color, may be too blue and am wondering how it will all look. Knowing that my walls are eighteen feet tall, the pressure is on to get it right,...See MoreCeiling paint in cathedral ceilings
Comments (17)found this: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/4884564/please-help-with-pearly-white-paint I agree, a soft white would be prettier, but I'm not a paint expert, so I'm following along bc I have a similar problem down the road w/vaulted ceiling and a wall of windows, once our house is completed....See MoreManuela
