Ya'll are an inspiration -- NEW Convert
Comments (42)Welcome, Betty in Georgia!!! I think I've seen you somewhere before *g*. I am so happy to have been a part of your conversion, and you are going to love it here (especially the OT threads, those are my favorites...we like to get friendly). OK, look up at the top of this page, there is a green bar that says Blogs, Forums, Photo Galleries, etc. Hover your mouse over "Forums" and you will see "Garden Forums" as one of the choices. Click on that and it will take you to a listing of all (and there are a LOT!) of the garden forums. Scroll down a ways on the page and, on the left side, you'll see "Georgia Gardener". Or, follow this link: Here is a link that might be useful: Georgia Gardener...See MoreGrits a Ya Ya?
Comments (11)Haha, this forum has quite a lively bunch! Gouda question. After Natals comment I decided to rip open my Reypenaer 1yr Gouda and try it. Well, I like it...it has a tangy kick and goes very well with red wine. I realized, though, I didn't buy the smoked version. Also, it has some grit in it. Can I substitute smoked Gruyere? Also, is a little grit a characteristic of this cheese? Sally, thanks for the advice on the grits. I'm glad you mentioned slow cooking grits are hard to find. I've been to 3 large chain grocery stores and can only find the quick-cooking grits. I have one more place to try...Whole Foods. If they don't carry them I'll try your suggestion of polenta (something else I've never cooked but always wanted to try) Jennifer...See MoreFinally - got hair done today
Comments (11)I have naturally curly hair - almost 63. When I was 5, with curls like Shirley Temple, my cousin with the thin straight hair decided she needed a perm but would only go for a Toni if I went too (her family had money, mine did not - guess who "won"). No hairdresser should have permed my hair - talk about a brillo pad! I have hated going to the hairdresser ever since. I am also hair dryer challenged and diffuser challenged. So I stick my head under the tap to wash it and then add some curl enhancer and that is it. Yet when I go for my colour and cut (yesterday) I always have it blowed straight - by someone who knows how to use a brush and dryer - not just swing a dryer around and then use a flat iron - that will kill your hair. While my hair has always been dry - and very thick - it does look very good when done by a hairdresser - I have to be very careful since my hair can be styled in many ways - 95% of which do not suit me. People always ask me why I curl my hair when it looks better straight! As if....Actually, even if I could use a dryer properly, it would take forever for me to dry my hair. I remember being told that post menopause my hair would start to thin out - well it hasn't. I agree re the smell of perms - I would know immediately if someone even came near me. Now if only I suited any other colour than auburn I would be happy. Red is the devil to maintain - good thing I always wear a hat. It is funny, we always want the hair we don't have. Great that you are happy with your perm - but it is funny that my hair looks just like yours after my tap routine....See MoreOK Squirrel, here ya go
Comments (65)Oh that's a beautiful specimen. Reading about it, I'm sure I'd be glad to have a couple of those. I love the fact that it is fragrant. It has so many qualities and in looking at yours Natal it appears very hardy. How large was yours when you purchased it? I'm assuming you purchased it locally. What about you Wodka, same questions. Nice to know it grows from a cutting also. One of the things I want to do is plant fragrant vines and plants by the doors as I love that when I'm entering and exiting. Right now I have to walk around my neighborhood smelling all the neighbor's fragrant flowers. LOL Thanks for the information and photo's....See MoreIdaClaire
