Open Floorplan: living room/dining room OR extra big living room?
Comments (12)I vote for hardwood or engineered wood through the whole space, including the kitchen. Opening the wall would be nice, but I suspect your appliances are arrayed along that wall? I'd paint the wall the same pale color as the living space, and hang a really big mirror on the wall if you can't open it. Then you open the wall visually, and reflect the light from the sliders back into the space. (I know...me and mirrors. They are great manipulators of space, particularly when you commit to making them big!)...See Morearranging living room furniture w/ front door opens to living room
Comments (2)You might consider moving the sofa to be centered in front of the window and put the chair nearer the door adding a pony wall height bookshelf (with its back to the chair), with or without doors on the entry side, between the chair and the door to create an entry; perhaps something like this: http://thegamersforce.com/ikea-glass-door-bookcase/bookshelf-inspiring-low-bookcase-with-doors-bookcase-with-doors-ikea-dark-brown-bookcase-with-glass-glass-door-ikea-bookcase-singapore-ikea-glass-door-bookcase-ikea-billy-bookcase-glass-door-instruc/ A barrister style bookcase could also work. Such a room divider would give you a place to add a lamp to the room....See MoreFront door opens into living room and dining room combo
Comments (7)You want to create "islands" floating in that long space. Judianna's idea is great--floating sofa with a great looking entry console against the sofa back and leaving a walkway to the stairs and across the room to kitchen. However, I don't think a 10' sofa will work since the room is only 12' wide. It will be too crammed. (Such a long sofa also means you'll have people lined up side by side.) Can you get a shorter sofa if it hasn't been delivered yet? Then have two smaller chairs facing the sofa anchored on a large rug, A shorter sofa and two armchairs will be cozier in such a large space and give you more seating flexibility. Get a round table at the dining end to create curves in such a linear space....See MoreNeed Furniture Ideas! Front Door Opens Into Living/Dining Rooms
