DIY stainless steel countertop
Comments (2)Ply is never the preferred substrate for any type of veneer covering, metal included. MDF and contact cement is the preferred method. Be very very careful with handling the stainless. It's not at all easy to get the dents out. It's a very unforgiving material. I wouldn't use a ceramic tile front edge on it anywhere either, or use a topmount sink. That 100% defeats the primary reason to use metal for a counter: seamlessness. You might as well be doing laminate as do that. You're not getting any of the benefit of a metal counter at all, including the integral sink. You want to go down into the industrial section of town and find a metal fabricator who can create a folded edge for the counter. They'll use a break to bend it over and you'll just glue it to the substrate. I'd get them to also do a 2" backsplash rather than doing the tile as well. They can weld the sink in, and you'll have the total seamlessness which is why people do stainless counters....See MoreKitchen Sink replacement question
Comments (3)chanj: Buy a package of jigsaw blades with a selection of general, wood, and plastic. Install one and see how well it cuts through the plastic laminate and substrate by just starting in 1/8" or so. You want to avoid chipping. Your backsplash may not let you get the jigsaw close enough to cut the rear. If not, and you've got the room, just make the front cut larger and move the sink forward. It that's not an option, you could use a laminate trimmer with a straight cutter freehand, or a Rotozip to cut the rear....See MoreNeed help finding a replacement kitchen sink by size of sink cutout
Comments (6)Sincere thinks to you all for the feedback. After doing more sink research, I found out that the new sink's cutout size had the smallest cutout size of all for the double-basin SS sinks I was looking at. I bit the bullet and found a handyman who came out to enlarge (dry cut with a shop vac) the granite. He was able to do it in <30 minutes., just by cutting 2 sides. It did cause a lot of dust, even with us prepping the kitchen area by removing everything from the counters, open food items, plus hanging plastic tarps on all sides of the kitchen to contain the dust to the area. The edge of the cabinet under the granite got slightly damaged but is still hidden, and the sink now sits flush to the countertop....See Morecomplete kitchen remodel help
Comments (10)benjesbride thank you I don't mean to sound like a idiot remodeling is just not my thing I do accounting lol... We are in the middle of problems since we purchased the house so we will be able to remodel with a decent budget from another's pocket. Yes it is a tri-level home. The side with Kitchen has a small hallway to the front door from kitchen a small dinning room off the kitchen and living room on front. once we get the go ahead that whole side will be gutted from the ground to the ceiling so my options are open all the way. I will get some graph paper and go the best I can to draw that out and post it for you to see. Again thank you for your help and not making me feel so stupid....See MoreKatie Rable
